She was also part of the first integrated graduating class in 1966. Norwood volunteers and substitutes at MISD campuses and was commended for her positivity and love of children. On August 22, 2017, the building naming was unanimously approved by the MISD school board after being unanimously recommended by the Facility Naming Committee.

A new school dedication ceremony will be held on Saturday, August 7 at 3 p.m. Details to follow.

Greetings Norwood Elementary Community!

I am honored to announce my appointment as the principal of Brenda Norwood Elementary STEM and Fine Arts Academies. I look forward to beginning a new chapter with each of you.

I am eager to use each of these experiences to continue the awesome work that is taking place in our district. I am passionate about building a positive school culture as well as building lasting relationships with all students, families and teachers to ensure sustainability.  One way in which I do this is by being a very visible administrator. You’ll see me dancing with students in the mornings, I’ll be in classrooms and throughout the building interacting with students and teachers during the day and at dismissal giving our students a great send off until the next time I see them again.

I am a proud parent of a daughter that will be a sophomore in college, and a son that will start high school as a freshman. My family loves to spend time outdoors, and enjoys traveling to the beach. I am an avid runner and have completed 3 marathons and am hoping for two more!

As we look forward to the next school year, I am excited about the amazing things we have planned to develop relationships with our community and Brenda Norwood herself. My goal is that every single student knows how much we love and care about them as an individual. Through the development of these relationships, we will strive to provide instructional opportunities that lead to academic excellence. I am extremely excited to be able to open a new facility and partnership with you and your children to begin new traditions together as Buzzing Bees!

Sincerely,
