Pre-Kindergarten

Pre-K in Mansfield ISD is full day, 8:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., for students who are 4 years old by September 1st of the enrolling school year.

Starting April 1, 2026 registration for your pre-k or new to the district kindergarten student can be completed online or through a scheduled appointment at your child's campus. While online enrollment is strongly encouraged, we understand that some may not be able to complete everything online (i.e. - those needing assistance turning in documents virtually).  

All families enrolling in Pre-K must attend an appointment at the campus to determine Pre-K eligibility.

  • In-person appointments, held at the child's home campus, are primarily scheduled to determine Pre-K eligibility and for those having difficulty submitting documents online.
    • NOTE: Before an in-person appointment can be scheduled, parents must start the enrollment process online.

Mansfield ISD provides free pre-kindergarten to students who meet at least one of the following eligibility criteria as outlined by the Texas Education Agency AND offers tuition-based Pre-K for students who do not meet any of the eligibility criteria.

A child who is four (4) years of age on or before September 1 of the current school year is eligible for a pre-kindergarten program if the child meets one of the qualifiers listed below:

• Unable to speak and comprehend the English language;
• Economically disadvantaged (qualifies for free or reduced lunches);
• Homeless (as defined by 42 United States Code (U.S.C.) Section 1143a);
• Child of an active duty member of the armed forces of the United States, including state military forces or a reserve component of the armed forces, who is ordered to active duty (must be on active duty the first day of school);
• Child of a member of the armed forces of the United States, including state military forces or a reserve component of the armed forces, who was injured or killed while serving on active duty;
• Child is, or ever has been, in the conservatorship of the Department of Family and Protective Services following an adversary hearing. This also includes children who have been adopted or returned to their parents; or
• Child of a person eligible for the Star of Texas Award as: a peace officer under Section 3106.002, Government Code; a firefighter under Section 3106.003, Government Code; or an emergency medical first responder under Section 3106.004, Government Code
• Child of a person employed as a classroom teacher at a public primary or secondary school in the district that offers a prekindergarten class under this section

Documentation of eligibility is required upon enrollment. Review the list below for the approved documentation required for each noted eligibility.

Mansfield ISD offers tuition-based pre-kindergarten to students who do not meet eligibility criteria as outlined by the Texas Education Agency (TEA).

Lottery
The application for families interested in tuition-based Pre-K at JL Boren, Anna May Daulton, Annette Perry, Judy K. Miller, Cora Spencer, and Jandrucko Academy for Early Learners will open on April 1, 2026. at 8 a.m. and close on April 8, 2025 at 6 p.m.

A lottery system is used for acceptance in the program at these campuses (JL Boren, Anna May Daulton, Annette Perry, Judy K. Miller,  Cora Spencer, and Jandrucko Academy for Early Learners). Parents will be notified if a seat is awarded. Those who apply, but are not provided with a seat through the lottery, will be placed on a waiting list in the order the application was submitted; parents will be notified via email once a seat is available.

Waiting List
Tuition-based PK may be available at other MISD campuses with a pre-kindergarten program. Seats at these campuses are limited because availability is strictly based on enrollment numbers. Parents interested in tuition-based PK at any of these locations, may be added to the Wait List (open on April 17, 2026 at 8:00 AM). Please note that most seats may not be released until the end of July or the first week of August.

Important to Note:

• Tuition-based PK is only offered for Mansfield ISD residents and staff members.

• All registration documentations are required for enrollment.

• Once a tuition-based opportunity is offered, parents have 24 hours to accept the invitation. 

• Transportation will be available under the following conditions:

  • Bus transportation is only available to students enrolled at their designated home campus, based on the student’s residential address.

  • You can verify your child’s home campus by entering your home address here.

• Transportation Will Not Be Provided for:

  • Students attending a Pre-K program outside their designated MISD attendance zone.

  • Students who live within two miles of their home campus.

  • MISD will continue to follow the existing two-mile walk zone and hazardous route criteria, as established by the school board, to determine transportation eligibility.

  • Note:  All eligible Pre-K through 1st-grade students must have a bus tag and must be met at the bus stop by a parent or guardian in order to exit the bus, unless accompanied by an older sibling.  Older siblings must be in second grade or older.  No exceptions.

Tuition | Payment Process:

• Full-day tuition is $550 per month and due the first day of every month during the regular school term (September - May).  

• Parents have the following options for payment:  Online Skyward E-Check payment (.75 fee), Online Skyward Credit Card (over 4% fee), or provide cash/money order/check to the campus.

MISD offers Bilingual Pre-K following a one-way, 90/10 dual language model, in which 90% of the instruction is delivered in Spanish and the other 10% is delivered in English.  

The one-way model is for students identified as English Learners whose home language is Spanish.  Students are identified by taking a language assessment and must qualify for the program.  

One-way Bilingual Pre-K is offered at the following campuses: 

• Alice Ponder Elementary School
• Dr. Sarah K. Jandrucko Academy for Early Learners
• Erma Nash Elementary School

Mansfield ISD Pre-Kindergarten is developmentally appropriate, multisensory and experiential.  It provides a foundation for language, learning and social skill development. PreK students are provided an environment that inspires curiosity, builds confidence and fosters a love of learning. Curriculum for this program is an integration of learning where students learn through experience-based active explorative experiences.

Pre-K & Kindergarten Round Up

6 - 7:30 PM

Parents interested in learning more about our pre-kindergarten programs are invited to attend our Preview into Pre-K Night on Wednesday, March 25 from 6 - 7:30 p.m. at the Dr. Jim Vaszauskas Center for the Performing Arts.

Pre-K teachers and staff from the following departments: student nutrition, health services, before/after school care QUEST, transportation, bilingual choice, and special education will be in attendance to provide information and answer parent questions. The night will also include plenty of activities for students to experience active, explorative play through learning.

Pre-K & Kindergarten Round Up

Incoming pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students and families are invited to attend the Pre-K & Kindergarten Round Up event on Thursday, April 23 from 5 - 7 p.m. The event will be held at the student's home campus. Contact the school directly for further information.

Immunization/Vaccine Clinic

APRIL 28, 2026
2:00PM - 6:00PM

Passport Health/Staying Healthy Medical Services will conduct a spring student vaccination clinic for required back-to-school immunizations on Wednesday, April 28 from 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM at the Dr. Jim Vaszauskas Center for the Performing Arts (1110 W. Debbie Lane, Mansfield, Texas 76063).

All students attending or registering to attend MISD are welcome. For more information about insurances accepted and vaccinations being offered, please download the flyer or contact the MISD Health Services Department at 817-299-6370.

Parents wishing to transfer a Pre-K student to another campus should complete the transfer application before the district deadline. Pre-K students must meet eligibility requirements at their home campus before requesting a transfer.

Tuition-based Pre-K students must live within the Mansfield ISD attendance zone, but do not require a transfer request to a campus outside of their elementary school attendance zone.

Mansfield ISD offers a continuum of special education services for children ages 3–4 who are determined eligible for specialized supports and services. If you have concerns about your child’s development, we’re here to help you understand the evaluation process and what happens next. How you request an evaluation depends on whether your child is currently enrolled in Mansfield ISD: 

• Currently enrolled and attending a Mansfield ISD campus: If your child is age 3–5, lives within MISD boundaries, and is already enrolled, please submit your evaluation request to your child’s teacher and/or campus administrator. 
• Not enrolled in a Mansfield ISD campus: If your child is age 3–5, lives within MISD boundaries, and is not yet enrolled, your child will be referred to the MISD Preschool Assessment Team. To begin the evaluation process, please complete the MISD Child Find Intake or contact the Special Education Department at 817-299-4300 to complete the intake process.
