Judy K. Miller Elementary will open as a school within a school for the 2015-16 school term. Students and staff will share space with Glenn Harmon Elementary (2015-16) and Charlotte Anderson Elementary (2016-17) while their facilities are being rebuilt. Miller Elementary is scheduled to open as its own independent campus the fall of 2017.
MISD Administration put the school-within-a-school initiative in place as an effort to prevent overcrowding at the neighboring campuses of Elizabeth Smith and Cora Spencer Elementary. As these campuses reach capacity, student overflow could be moved to Judy K. Miller Elementary.
In April 2015, Mansfield ISD opened up a limited number of enrollment spots for students zoned at Smith and Spencer Elementary. This option allowed parents, in close proximity of Miller Elementary, an opportunity to pre-enroll their child at the school they would most likely be zoned to when Judy K. Miller opens as an independent campus. Parent meetings were held at both campuses to discuss details about the intra-district option.
Jenny Roberson, Principal - Education has been my passion and career for 34 years. I completed my undergraduate work at Baylor University and graduate work at Texas Woman’s University. I’ve been privileged to lead two elementary schools in Garland ISD with my former school being a brand new program to the district similar to Miller Elementary.
As the 2015-16 school year begins, we will most likely start with small class sizes. Student growth and success is my commitment to you. We will individualize instruction and ensure all students are learning to their potential as well as excelling beyond.
It’s an amazing opportunity to start a school from the very beginning stages. I’m a high-energy person who enjoys the challenges and rewards of education, not to mention the fact that I absolutely love working with children! I look forward to creating a collaborative team as we start this new venture at Judy K. Miller. Contact Jenny Roberson
