Dr. Vaszauskas Named Regional Superintendent of the Year
Mansfield ISD Superintendent Dr. Jim Vaszauskas has been named the 2017 Region 11 Superintendent of the Year. Region 11 consists of 77 school districts and 52 charter schools in the north central Texas area.
The Superintendent of the Year Award, sponsored by the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB), honors outstanding Texas administrators for achievement and excellence in public school administration.
Candidates for the award must be nominated by their school boards and are chosen for their strong leadership skills, dedication to improving the quality of education in their districts, commitment to public support and involvement in education, and ability to build good employee relations among teachers and staff members.
Dr. Vaszauskas’ experience in education spans more than 30 years. He has served Mansfield ISD for eight years, with the past four years as its superintendent.
The selection panel was extremely impressed with the achievements that Vaszauskas has made as superintendent.
“Dr. V gave us several snippets showing his good leadership, but I was most impressed when he discussed how Mansfield ISD measures success,” said Ralph Kunkel, board trustee for Birdville ISD. “In particular, he discussed their strategic plan called Vision 2020, which looks at reading readiness at early ages, Algebra I readiness in high school, and graduates with certifications/college hours.”
As the Region 11 winner, Dr. Vaszauskas will move on to the state level of the competition. The state winner will be announced at the Texas Association of School Administrators/Texas Association of School Boards (TASA/TASB) annual convention on Oct. 7 and will receive a $5,000 professional development award.
