MISD Moves Forward with A/B Block Schedule for High Schools
Posted 10/07/2015 05:05PM

Dear Mansfield ISD Family:

When we look at the very core of MISD’s mission, our calling is to graduate college and/or career ready students. To ensure that we are aligned with that mission, Mansfield ISD conducted a comprehensive study of our high schools’ master schedule during the spring and summer of 2015.

We held several focus group discussions, parent meetings, teacher meetings, and surveyed our community. Also, I meet with student focus groups on each of our five traditional high schools’ campuses. This was an important process for our district as providing an opportunity for all to have their voice heard was critically important to gathering valid information.

I am grateful to the MISD students, parents, staff, and community who participated in this process and please know that your opinions and input were considered and valued.

After careful consideration of the information provided and with a clear focus on our mission to graduate college and career ready students, I believe the A/B block schedule best meets the needs of our high school students.

MISD high schools will move to the A/B block schedule in the 2016-2017 school year. A/B block schedule means students will take 4 classes on “A” days and 4 different classes on “B” days. This schedule will ensure that all students have access to Ben Barber Career Tech, dual credit classes, College Board advanced placement classes and quality co-curricular and extra-curricular programs.

Elementary, Intermediate and Middle school schedules will not change for the 2016-2017 school year.

Thank you for your patience as our high school principals and counselors work out the details of this change. More information will be forthcoming as those details are complete.

MISD will continue to ensure that all of our students are able to reach their full potential.
