The Mansfield ISD community displayed its tremendous generosity once again by donating more than 27,000 toys and nearly $7,000 for children who are less fortunate.
MISD’s seventh annual Toys for Tots Community Drive, one of the largest in the state, was held Dec. 5 at the MISD Center for the Performing Arts.
Thousands of people came with donations and stayed for the many festivities. Some of the biggest attractions were the pony rides, snow hill rides, petting zoo, kiddie train, photos with Santa Clause, games and crafts. Students from various campuses also held crowd-gathering performances throughout the evening.
Prior to the big event, MISD campuses and departments encouraged students and staff to give to the cause by holding all sorts of contests. Event coordinators said the outpouring from the community is nothing short of amazing.
“One of the things I love most about Mansfield ISD is the heart of the community. I had people calling me right after last year’s drive already wanting to give for this year,” said Jeanne Cassidy, sales and marketing coordinator at the MISD Center for the Performing Arts. “I truly appreciate the students, parents, staff, businesses and community organizations who spent their time, energy and funds to help children who need a little extra love this holiday season.”
Toys for Tots is a program founded in 1947 by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. The program’s mission is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year and distribute those toys as gifts to children in the community who otherwise would not receive a present.
MISD partners with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and FOX 4 News to make the MISD Toys for Tots Community Drive memorable for all.
