Timberview High School Earns All Seven State Distinctions, Maintains A Rating

Timberview High School has earned all seven distinctions awarded by the Texas Education Agency while maintaining its A rating for the second consecutive year, marking a major achievement for the campus and its staff.

Principal Nastassia Neal said the accomplishment reflects years of focused work to strengthen classroom instruction and ensure students receive high-quality learning experiences.

"We were really excited," Neal said. "Our teams weren't chasing distinctions. They were focused on being the best for kids in their classrooms."

After receiving only a handful of distinctions the previous year, campus leaders and teachers began examining the state's distinction system more closely. Rather than changing course, they continued emphasizing strong Tier 1 instruction, alignment of teaching and learning objectives, and student success.

Tier 1 instruction is the high-quality, universal core curriculum delivered to all students in general education classrooms as part of the state's Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework.

According to Neal credits earning all seven distinctions as the result of a three-year effort to strengthen instructional practices across the campus.

"It isn't necessarily anything that we did differently," Neal said. "We're really focused on alignment and Tier 1 instruction. Our teams are simply more experienced in the process and better able to identify and address gaps for students."

The work also has increased teachers' content knowledge and strengthened instructional delivery, helping ensure classroom practices align with state expectations and assessments.

District support played a significant role in Timberview's success. The school's implementation of a backward design planning process required ongoing collaboration with Mansfield ISD's Department of Instruction.

Curriculum and content coaches regularly work alongside teachers during planning sessions and help evaluate classroom implementation to ensure instruction matches the plans developed by teaching teams.

"Did we get here by ourselves? Absolutely not," Neal said. "We've had the support of our Department of Instruction the entire time."

Beyond academics, school leaders say the achievement reflects a strong campus culture embraced by students.

While many students may not focus specifically on the school's accountability rating, they take pride in what it means to be a Timberview Wolf.

"Our kids are excited about everything we do at Timberview," Neal said. "They're proud of our achievements, our programs and our school. They're proud to be a Wolf."

The principal credited the entire campus community, including teachers, office staff, parents and support personnel, for contributing to the school's success.

"The work that we do is very difficult. It takes a lot of energy, effort, and intentionality," Neal said. "We're incredibly proud of every single staff member because every staff member impacts our campus rating and our ability to earn distinctions."

The achievement marks the second consecutive year Timberview has earned an A rating during the principal's tenure and highlights the campus' continued commitment to academic excellence and student success.
