The Mansfield Timberview Lady Wolves basketball team finished second in the 5A 2024 UIL Girls State Basketball Championships. They fell to Frisco Liberty in the final game 51-60 at the San Antonio Alamodome Saturday, March 2. This is their sixth trip to state since 2009.

“This is the best team we’ve ever had,” said head coach Kit Martin. “It’s the way they play together, the way they care about each other. When you get them together, they’re a unit.”

Coming into Saturday’s state championship game, the Lady Wolves were ranked No. 1 in the state and No. 12 in the nation following a 41-1 season. This season, Timberview defeated the defending state champions in 6A, 5A and 4A along with four other teams who eventually qualified for the state tournament. 

Timberview (40-1), the state’s No. 1 squad in Class 5A, advanced to face defending state champion and No. 2-ranked Frisco Liberty (33-7). The teams met earlier this year, with Timberview winning 40-19.

The Timberview girls basketball team qualified for the UIL State Basketball Tournament after defeating Argyle over the weekend in the 5A Region I final.  

The Lady Wolves will play Cedar Park on Thursday, Feb. 29, at 8:30 p.m. at the Alamodome in San Antonio. The winner of the semifinal game will play in the championship on Saturday, March 2, at 3 p.m. 

Head coach Kit Martin and her team have been ranked number one by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches the entire season. Timberview has won 36 games in a row and this is the team’s sixth trip to state in 16 years.   

“We have a goal this year, and that’s to win a state championship, period,” Martin said.

Semifinals  

1. Purchase tickets on Ticketmaster.

Finals  

After the semifinals game, tickets for the Championship game will immediately go on sale on site at the ticket office and online at Ticketmaster. Use the code UILWIN on Ticketmaster for a discount.
