Congratulations to the Summit Jaguar boys' basketball team for bringing home the team’s first state championship in school history. On Saturday, March 8, the Jags defeated Fort Bend Marshall 54-47 in the 5A Division II State Championship at the Alamodome in San Antonio.

Two years ago, the Jags made it to the state semifinal game where they fell to Killeen Ellison. This year’s win against Ellison in the semifinal game avenged that loss for the players who are still on the team.

“I just know it’s a lot of hard work—I think about the kids and the work they put in,” said head coach Emund Prichett. “I know these kids care about each other. We showed people what teamwork can do and what believing in each other can do.”

Summit High School principal Jason Mutterer has spent his entire 23 education career at Summit High School, 15 of those as head basketball coach. For him, this moment is especially sweet.

“I am so proud of our boys’ basketball players and coaches for bringing a state championship back to our community and to those who wore a Summit jersey before them,” Mutterer said. “They are not only champions on the court but off the court as well.”
