State Announces Parental Options for Students to Repeat Grades or Courses
Given the disruptions of the 2020-2021 school year, the Texas Legislature has given parents and guardians new rights to make the decision to have their child repeat a grade or course for the upcoming school year.
For students in fourth grade and above, the option for parents to decide if a child should repeat a grade only exists for the 2021-22 school year; but for students in prekindergarten (pre-K) through third grade, the option for parents is permanent.
Visit this Texas Education Agency (TEA) webpage for details about restarting a pre-K or kindergarten child. Visit this TEA webpage for information and considerations pertaining to repeating a grade or course for students in grades 1-12.
