A Mansfield ISD elementary teacher has been selected to represent the North Central Texas region in this year’s state Teacher of the Year competition.

Hadley Brown, a first grade teacher at Roberta Tipps STEAM Academy, was named the 2021 Region 11 Elementary Teacher of the Year during an awards ceremony on Aug. 5.

The ceremony recognized all of the teachers of the year from school districts in the North Central Texas region. A total of 71 teachers, representing 39 school districts in Region 11, participated in this year’s competition.

Brown was named MISD’s teacher of the year in May. She is an MISD alumna in her sixth year of education. She firmly believes that positive change starts with children and wanted to reinvest in the district that made a profound impact on her.

District winners who competed for the regional award were required to submit their resumes describing their educational history and professional development. In addition, they were asked to write their own professional biography as well as five lengthy essays about different aspects of education.

The Teacher of the Year Program is sponsored by the Texas Association of School Administrators. Judges meet in August each year to narrow the pool of 40 Regional Teachers of the Year to six finalists — three elementary and three secondary.

The finalists are interviewed later in the fall by a panel of judges who then select the Texas Elementary and Texas Secondary Teachers of the Year.
