It has been a season of firsts for the Mansfield ISD athletics program. Along with the first MISD softball team to make a state appearance in the playoffs, an MISD baseball team has followed suit.

The Legacy High School baseball team will be heading to the state tournament after defeating Aledo High School in a three-game series. It is the first time in district history that an Mansfield ISD baseball team has made it to the semifinals.

“To now have two programs in the district make it to the state tournament in their sport is a huge accomplishment,” said Philip O’Neal, executive director of athletics. “The coaches and kids can be proud of the fact that they've broken the ice for the district and placed in the minds of other athletes and staff in the district that they can do the same.”

The Broncos will play in the state tournament semifinals game against Friendswood on June 9 at Dell Diamond in Round Rock. If the team advances, the state championship game will take place on June 11 at the same location.
