Mansfield ISD Observes Patriot Day

Sept. 11, 2018 marks the 17th anniversary of the largest act of terrorism on U.S. soil.

Nearly 3,000 people died as a direct result of the attacks when hijackers deliberately flew planes into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon in Virginia (near Washington, D.C.) and a field in Pennsylvania.

While those lost lives are mourned, the nation also celebrates the bravery of the service members and first responders who remain on the front lines.

The Sept. 11 day of remembrance is known as Patriot Day.

Several Mansfield ISD campuses will honor the day in various ways. Students and staff will take part in assemblies, moments of silence, history lessons and acts of service.

Flags will also be flown at half-staff as a mark of respect. Individuals are encouraged to display the U.S. flag at their home as a reminder of the strength of the country in times of adversity.
