Mansfield ISD is one of only 10 school districts in the state to receive the Award of Excellence in Financial Management.
The recognition, given by the Texas Association of School Business Officials (TASBO), is presented to school districts that have implemented professional standards, best practices and innovations in financial reporting.
This is the first year of the TASBO Award of Excellence in Financial Management. Tracy Ginsburg, TASBO Executive Director, said it is a way to recognize school organizations that gave exceeded standards in business and finance operations.
“It’s a rigorous program,” said Ginsburg. “In Texas, there are high expectations for public education to properly manage finances and report them transparently. This new awards program reflects efforts to adopt best practices and go above and beyond minimum standards.”
The criteria for the award is based on state and federal guidelines. Each applicant had to submit documentation on the following 11 areas:
- Finance department essentials
- Staffing and training
- Budget management
- Cash management
- Financial reports
- Financial analyses and projections
- External staff training
- Innovation (bonus points)
