Drill Teams Will Perform in New York City

Lake Ridge and Summit Drill Teams

The Lake Ridge High School Eagle Elites, Summit High School Sapphires, Mansfield High School Gold Dusters and Legacy High School Silver Spurs drill teams will spread holiday cheer this season in New York City.

Lake Ridge and Summit will perform together as an opening act for the Radio City Rockettes on Dec. 4 at Radio City Music Hall. Mansfield and Legacy also will perform together as an opener for the Rockettes on Dec. 8.

“This experience is opening up their eyes to the many opportunities out there,” said Alex Thomas, Mansfield High’s drill team director. “What’s most important on this trip is seeing what else is out there for these students.”

Lake Ridge High School drill team director Amie Harris is excited for her students to meet professional dancers who’ve made a career out of their passion.

“Dance doesn’t have to stop because you graduate high school,” Harris said.

The teams have learned new routines for the New York show. Former Rockette, Summyr Whaley, choreographed a routine for the Silver Spurs and Gold Dusters, and she taught the routine to the performers.

“Radio City Music Hall is the premier performance venue in the United States,” said Legacy drill team director Brooke Parlin. “To have the opportunity to be on that stage is going to be magical.”

All teams will perform their routines at the annual Hometown Holidays Dance Spectacular on Dec. 2 at the Dr. Jim Vaszauskas Center for the Performing Arts, 1110 W. Debbie Ln., Mansfield, TX 76063.

“Being able to experience performing on such a famous stage, opening for none other than the Rockettes, is something students would never experience while staying in Mansfield,” said Summit Sapphires drill team director Breanne Sheets. “This trip is opening up new life experiences for my dancers that they wouldn’t be able to get while staying in the comfort of our metroplex.”
