Three Mansfield ISD school counselors were finalists to be named the best school counselor in the state of Texas.

The Texas School Counselor of the Year award, sponsored by the Lone Star State School Counselor Association (LSSSCA), honors school counseling professionals who devote their careers to serving as advocates for students, helping them achieve success in school and in life.

Julia Brown Rea from Mary Jo Sheppard Elementary School was a top five finalist in the competition. Jennifer Douglas from Della Icenhower Intermediate School and Tonya Willis from Danny Jones Middle School were semifinalists.

The 2018 Texas School Counselor of the Year finalists were chosen based on school counseling innovations, effective school counseling programs, leadership/advocacy skills and contributions to student advancement.

The finalists will be recognized at LSSSCA’s annual conference in November.
