Mansfield ISD Named 2015 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year

MANSFIELD, TX – For the second year in a row, Mansfield ISD has been named ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year. The award is given by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to organizations that implement outstanding efforts to improve the energy efficiency of U.S. buildings and facilities.

Through its partnership with the ENERGY STAR program, MISD has improved its energy performance, saved money, and helped to protect the environment for future generations.

MISD has earned 188 ENERGY STAR Building Certifications since 2006, which is more than any other school district in the State of Texas. Some other key accomplishments of MISD’s award-winning energy management program include:

  • Reducing utility costs by nearly $1.2 million, decreasing energy usage by over 10 percent, and cutting CO2 emissions by 3,890 metric tons between January and November 2014.
  • Saving over $3.1 million and cutting CO2 emissions by over 11,000 metric tons since the partnership with Cenergistic began in June 2012.
  • Dedicated Energy Specialists conducting over 2,300 individual building audits during 2014.
  • Instructing more than 1,000 students in energy conservation lessons and encouraging the community to “Take the Pledge.

Since its inception in 1992, ENERGY STAR and its partners have helped prevent a total of more than two billion metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions. In 2013 alone, ENERGY STAR and its partners provided more than $11 billion in societal benefits due to reducing damages from climate change.

MISD has more than 50 buildings and facilities to upkeep. The district’s accomplishments will be recognized at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. on April 20.
