Step One: Go to any DPS office, ask for CDL Class “B” book, and take the following test first.
Step Two:
1. Section 4 (Passenger)
2. Section 10 (School buses)
Step Three: Pass MISD Transportation level one performance qualification test. The test includes: Exiting out of the back door of the bus in 25seconds, physically stepping through an opened emergency exit roof hatch and walking to a parked bus on the parking lot, and back on the second floor within three minutes.
Step Four: View all Transportation videos, sign up with Transportation for 20hr certification class and DOT physical/medical card. Management may get you a temporary certification card for six months if you however, have never driven a school bus before or if your certification has been expired over two to five years. You must take the 20hr school bus certification class within the six months of receiving the temporary school bus certification.
Step Five: Behind the wheel training with a Transportation trainer- The training will take five days (three hours each day)
