District-Issued Devices

Review the Fall 2023 Student Mobile Device Distribution Schedule for device deployment dates and times for Grades PK-12.

Students that are new to the district AND in grades 5-12, must enter a work order for a district-issued device by following the instructions under the Requesting Devices section.

Students in grades PK-1 will utilize classroom sets of iPads.

Students in grades 2-4 will utilize classroom sets of Chromebooks.

Students with outstanding device fees due to loss, theft or damage, can submit a work order to request a device AFTER fees are paid. Fees can be paid in Skyward via PayK12 or at student's assigned campus.

Students needing to report a broken device should follow the instructions on the Assistance with Broken/Damaged Devices webpage.

To get a district-issued device, please follow these instructions:

1. Review the MISD Student Device Usage Handbook.
    
2. Fill out the Help Desk Ticket Request.
    
3. Select "I am in need of a district-issued device" under the Student Need section.
   • I am currently in possession of a district-issued device. This device will need to be returned before a new one will be issued.
   • My device was lost and/or stolen. This device will need to be reported before a new one will be issued.
      
4. Devices will be set up by the assigned campus technician and delivered to the student's home campus.
    
5. Campus personnel will notify the student when the device is available for pickup. (Device turnaround time is typically 24-48 business hours.)
   • Hot spots are available if a need is determined.

After obtaining a district-issued device, you should review what you can and cannot do with your device and become familiar with any instructions that go with your device.

District-issued devices must be returned if there is a problem with the device, if the student no longer needs the device or if the student no longer attends an MISD school.

Drop-off location | Home campus during regular school hours

• If campus drop off is unavailable, you may go to the Police & Technology Department Lobby Area (1522 North Walnut Creek Drive in Mansfield, behind Brooks Wester Middle School) to turn in devices Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
   
• If you are unable to drop off during scheduled hours, please contact TechHelp@misdmail.org or call the student help line at 817-299-4357 to inquire about other accommodations.
   

Drop-off instructions | Bring the device, charger and case/bag that was issued.

• If a deposit was collected when the device was issued, a deposit refund will be issued based on a damage check and the completion of a refund application.

Requesting a Refund

After returning devices, students may submit a refund application for your deposit, if applicable.

If your child has lost or damaged your district-issued laptop/Chromebook charger, case or bag and you would like to purchase another one, please complete this form. Please be sure all fields are complete and accurate. Once we receive your request, the payment will be added to your child's Skyward account. After the fee is paid in Skyward, a replacement adapter/case/bag will be given to your child. Allow for 48-72 hours for processing.

All seniors must return their device before exiting the district per the MISD Student AUP and Device Handbook.

2022-23 Device Return Instructions

1. Bring a fully-charged device along with all accessories (power cable, case, etc.)
   • For lost, stolen or damaged devices/accessories, enter a work order as soon as possible using the instructions on Lost or Stolen Devices webpage or Broken/Damaged Devices webpage.
2. Pay all outstanding device-related fees (listed in Skyward) via PayK12.

NOTE: Device return exceptions will only be made for students taking summer school, late AP exams and other make-up digital assessments. Contact your campus for additional details.

STEM and Choice school students must return their laptops to be updated before leaving for the summer. Updated devices will be returned to students in the fall.

• Knight STEM Academy | 8th Grade: May 22; Grades 6-7: May 24

All third and fourth grade students must return their Chromebooks to their campus before the break. Collected devices will be repurposed as classroom sets next fall.

• All elementary schools | Grades 3-4: May 19

Students should store devices, charging cables and cases in a safe location over the summer break.

Parents are asked to continue to monitor students when using district and personal devices and set time limits. Use the Parent Online Safety Corner for device monitoring tips.

What should I do if my child misses device collection deadlines at their assigned campus?

Your child will need to return the device during the following makeup device collection date:

• May 30, 2023 | 3 p.m. - 6 p.m.
  Wester Middle School Library (1520 N. Walnut Creek Drive, Mansfield, TX 76063)

If you miss the makeup day, devices may be returned starting June 1 to the student's campus (if available) or the MISD Technology Department (behind Wester MS) from 9 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. OR 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.

What should I do if my child has a lost, stolen or damaged device?

Report the matter as soon as possible using the instructions on Lost or Stolen Devices webpage or Broken/Damaged Devices webpage. Fees must be paid before leaving for the summer break in Skyward via PayK12.

What should I do if my child is not returning to Mansfield ISD?

All students withdrawing from MISD must return the district-issued device along with all accessories to their school or the Technology Department.

Will my child keep their assigned Chromebook during the summer?

Students in Grades 5-12 will keep their Chromebooks over the summer. Students in Grades 3-4 and those not returning to MISD must return their devices.

What do I do with my child's hotspot over the summer?

If your child no longer needs a hotspot, please return it to your campus or to the Technology Department. If still needed for next year, you may keep the hotspot over the summer.

What happens if my child breaks their device over the summer?

Report the matter as soon as possible using the instructions on the Broken/Damaged Devices webpage.

Which elementary students get Chromebooks?

Students in Grades 2-4 will have access to Chromebooks. The devices remain in the students' classroom.

Will Pre-K and first graders get devices next year?

Yes. Pre-kindergarten and first grade students will utilize class sets of iPads.
