Accessibility Training
The following training provides a high-level overview about web accessibility.
Understanding Accessibility
The best way to reinforce web accessibility may be by first understanding the difficulties users with disabilities face on the web and some of the motivations for web accessibility. WebAim.org, a website built to empower organizations to make their web content accessible to people with disabilities, provides videos from the user's perspective that I highly recommend you view.
- Video 1: Keeping Web Accessibility in Mind (An Overview of Difficulties Users Face)
- Video 2: Experience of Students with Disabilities (Students Share Some of Their Challenges)
Web Accessibility Best Practices
Here’s a few rules to remember when working with web content and making information accessible for all. By no means is this an exhaustive list, but it should address some of the more common mistakes.
- Add ALT Text to Images
- Use Paste as Plain Text
- Save Headings for True Headings
- Create Less PDFs, More Actual Content
- Make Links Descriptive
- Provide Captions and Transcripts for Videos
