The Drill Team Constitution

The drill team program, governed by the district's drill team constitution, begins with a series of orientation meetings followed by the submission of required documentation at the district and campus level by noted deadlines. Review the Mansfield ISD drill team constitution.

Parent Orientations

Parent informational meetings are held annually to discuss major aspects of the drill team program. While attendance at these meetings is not required, parents should note that the meetings also cover the application and tryout process as well as address common questions about the program.

Informational meetings for 2020-21 high school drill team tryouts will be held at the Mansfield ISD Center for the Performing Arts on the following days:

  • Monday, January 27, 2020 at 7:00 p.m.
  • Thursday, January 30, 2020 at 7:00 p.m.

Parents may elect to attend either meeting.

The Application Process

The application process includes the submission of both district and campus required documents. Specific deadlines apply to each component of the application process.

District-Level Document Submissions
The drill team application can only be submitted by a parent or legal guardian. Students are not allowed to submit the district-level application. Applications can be returned in person at either a parent orientation meeting or the MISD Fine Arts department (1120 W. Debbie Lane, Mansfield, TX 76063).

The drill team application for the 2020-21 school term is now closed. The filing deadline ended on Friday, Feb. 7 at 6 p.m.

Campus-Level Document Submissions
Each drill team program has specific requirements for the tryout process. While the requirements for each program are generally the same, the documents required by programs may vary.

If you have questions or need additional information, please contact the varsity drill team director indicated in the packet. The best source of information about the specifics of a particular program is the current director, and parents are strongly encouraged to rely upon them instead of information from any other source.

Clinics & Tryouts Schedules

As a result of the school closure for the remainder of the 2019– 20 academic year, the following adjustments have been made in order to conduct the drill team tryouts for the upcoming school year:

  • No Organized Clinics - Due to the requirements imposed by social distancing directives, there will be no organized clinic sessions in preparation for the high school drill team tryouts.
     
  • Tryout Dates & Procedures - Due to the elimination of clinics, preparation videos will be posted for two weeks prior to tryout submission dates. All tryouts will take place in the form of video submissions via Flipgrid starting Friday, May 22 at 12:01 a.m. through Saturday, May 23 at 11:59 p.m. Review the tryout procedures.
     
  • Judging - Candidates will be evaluated exclusively on the basis of the scores given by the three judges. Each judge’s score will account for one-third of the candidate’s overall score.
    • Why the change in scoring? An overwhelming majority of the pre-tryout evaluation rubric was based on the candidate’s performance during the clinic session. Now that the clinic component of the process has been eliminated, changes had to be made.
       
  • Results - Tryout results will be posted here no later than the end of business on Friday, May 29.
