High School Cheerleading

The Cheer/Mascot Constitution

The high school cheer program, governed by the district's cheer and mascot constitution, begins with a series of orientation meetings followed by the submission of required documentation at the district and campus level by noted deadlines. Review the Mansfield ISD high school cheer/mascot constitution.

Parent Orientations

Parent informational meetings are held annually to discuss major aspects of the cheer program. While attendance at these meetings is not required, parents should note that the meetings also cover the application and tryout process as well as address common questions about the program.

Informational meetings for 2020-21 high school cheerleading tryouts will be held at the Mansfield ISD Center for the Performing Arts on the following days:

  • Thursday, Jan. 9, 2020 at 7 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2020 at 7 p.m.

Parents may elect to attend either meeting.

The Application Process

The application process includes the submission of both district and campus required documents. Specific deadlines apply to each component of the application process.

District-Level Document Submissions
The cheer/mascot application can only be submitted by a parent or legal guardian. Students are not allowed to submit the district-level application. Applications can be returned in person at either a parent orientation meeting or the MISD Fine Arts department (1120 W. Debbie Lane, Mansfield, TX 76063).

The deadline for the submission of high school cheer/mascot applications for the 2020-21 school year is now closed.

Campus-Level Document Submissions
Each cheer program has specific requirements for the tryout process. While the requirements for each program are generally the same, the documents required by programs may vary.

If you have questions or need additional information, please contact the varsity cheerleading coach indicated in the packet. The best source of information about the specifics of a particular program is the current coach and parents are strongly encouraged to rely upon them instead of information from any other source.

Campus cheer/mascot tryout packets will be available on Jan. 9, 2020. See individual packets below for submission deadlines.

Please refer to the checklist for required documents and their associated deadlines for each individual high school cheer program.

Clinics & Tryouts

As a result of the school closure for the remainder of the 2019– 20 academic year, the following adjustments have been made in order to conduct the high school cheer tryouts for the upcoming school year:

  • No Organized Clinics - Due to the requirements imposed by social distancing directives, there will be no organized clinic sessions in preparation for the high school cheer tryouts.

  • No Mascot Tryouts - Due to concerns about multiple candidates sharing a single costume for the mascot portion of the tryout, all mascot tryouts will be rescheduled for August 2020.

  • Updated Cheer Tryout Process - Due to the elimination of clinics, preparation videos for both the cheer and the dance components of the tryout will be posted for two weeks prior to the tryout dates.

    • Tryouts will take place on Friday, May 15 and Saturday, May 16 at R.L. Anderson Stadium according to the revised tryout schedule.

    • Candidates will be assigned a specific tryout time that will be sent by the varsity cheer coach 2-3 days prior to the scheduled tryout date. Review the tryout process.

  • Judging - Candidates will be evaluated exclusively on the basis of the scores given by the three judges. Each judge’s score will account for one-third of the candidate’s overall score.

    • Why the change in scoring? An overwhelming majority of the pre-tryout evaluation rubric was based on the candidate’s performance during the clinic session. Now that the clinic component of the process has been eliminated, changes to scoring had to be made.

  • Results - Tryout results will be posted here no later than the end of business on Tuesday, May 19.
