The Board recently approved an update to Policies EIC (LOCAL) and FM (LOCAL). Changes to these policies will affect how class rankings are calculated starting in the 2024-25 school year.
MISD partners with Tarrant County College for our Dual Credit programs. Dual credit classes are graded on the TCC schedule by semester. TCC informed the District that they will no longer be providing in-progress grades (every 6 weeks). This change means that MISD can no longer calculate class rank in accordance to our previous policy by using grades available at the end of the fifth six-week grading period.
The new policy requires that the District shall calculate class rank by using grades available at the end of fall semester of the senior year for the valedictorian, salutatorian, top 20 students (or ten), summa cum laude students, magna cum laude students, and cum laude students.
Counselors will be reaching out to the class of 2025 (current juniors) to discuss this change and provide an opportunity to make adjustments to their schedules to help ensure that all students’ schedules are in alignment with their academic goals for high school and beyond. Any high school student who has questions regarding how this policy might affect them should schedule an appointment with their counselor.
Additionally, Policy FM (LOCAL) was updated to add that TCC, AP, and Honors courses allowed by UIL are now eligible for exemption from classes required for students to pass in order to participate in any extracurricular activity sponsored or sanctioned by the District.
