Credit By Exam
Credit by exam for acceleration provides a way for elementary students (grades 1-5) to take a test to move up a grade level. For secondary students (grades 6-12), Credit by Exam provides advanced students an opportunity to earn credit in a course that they have not taken in school.
Students must be enrolled and currently attending classes in MISD to be eligible for Credit by Exam for acceleration. Credit by Exam is free to any student enrolled in a Mansfield ISD school.
Credit by Exam for Advancement Grades 1 - 5
Credit by Examination for Advancement (without prior instruction) is available to first through fifth grade students who wish to test for advancement to the next grade level. Information about Kindergarten acceleration (skipping Kindergarten) is available from elementary counselors.
Elementary students must take exams in Science, Mathematics, Social Studies and Language Arts. Students must demonstrate mastery of 80% or higher on each test to be eligible to take the next test. Students who demonstrate 80% or higher mastery on all four tests will be considered for advancement to the next grade level.
Full grade acceleration is only offered at the beginning of the school year. Testing for fall placement is offered in July. Parents should be aware that there are no exceptions available for students to test at any other times and should plan summer vacation schedules accordingly.
There is no charge for testing of Mansfield ISD students. Testing is conducted at the RL Anderson Complex unless otherwise notified. Results will be sent to campus counselors after the scoring is complete. Parents can obtain the test results directly from the campus counselors.
Credit by Exam for Advancement Grades 6 - 12

Parents should be aware that there are no exceptions available for students to test at any other times and should plan summer vacation schedules accordingly.

High School AP Assessment Opt Out
Due to the loss of state and federal funding for Advanced Placement exams, MISD charges students a portion of the AP exam cost. The fee is $25 for each AP exam the student registers to take.
As a commitment to ensuring AP exams are affordable for students, MISD will continue to pay the same portion of each exam fee. If you wish to NOT take the AP exam, please fill out the AP Assessment Opt Out form.
