AVID

AVID LogoAVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a 5th- 12th grade college-readiness system designed to increase the number of students who enroll in four-year colleges or universities. Although AVID serves all students, it focuses on the least served students in the academic by placing them in the middle school and high school AVID elective class. The formula is simple: set high expectations for students and, with the AVID support system in place, they will rise to the challenge.

AVID Elementary (Intermediate Schools | Grades 5-6)

AVID Elementary is part of a district-wide effort to ensure college-ready students. It is a foundational program provided at our intermediate sites (grades 5-6) that feed into established and certified AVID elective programs at both the middle and high school levels. Every 5th and 6th grade student starts on the path of college readiness.

1st Year Focus Areas

AVID Elective Class (Middle & High School | Grades 7-12)

AVID middle and high school students are enrolled in a college preparatory curriculum, such as a Pre-Advanced Placemat, dual enrollment, accelerated and/or Advanced Placement® class, but are also enrolled in the AVID elective class. AVID students learn organizational, study and time management skills. In addition, they become critical thinkers, learn to ask probing questions, get academic help from peers and college tutors, and participate in enrichment and motivational activities focused on college preparation and readiness.

AVID’s mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.
