MISD College Testing Day

• 9th grade students take the PSAT 8/9 test. Participation in this exam allows students to compare their performance for the previous year and then to compare their performance against other 9th grade students across the nation who also took the same exam.

• 10th grade students take the PSAT or the PSAT/NMSQT. The PSAT/NMSQT is the second test in the SAT Suite of Assessments. It allows students to experience the rigor and timed segments of content that will be featured on the SAT and helps students and teacher identify areas of strength to assist in future scheduling and preparation for the exam. The PSAT/NMSQT provides opportunities for our students to become potential National Merit Scholarship recipients.

• 11th grade students take the PSAT or the PSAT/NMSQT. The PSAT/NMSQT is the second test in the SAT Suite of Assessments. • 12th grade students will participate in college-bound assessments or college visits. Your student’s campus will reach out concerning 12th grade options.

No. Students are not required to take the PSAT 8/9 or PSAT/NMSQT. Participation in these assessments, however, does provide opportunities for practice and preparation for college entrance exams. Also remember, when students take the PSAT during their 11th grade year, they are automatically screened for the National Merit Scholarship Program. The PSAT 8/9 and PSAT/NMSQT for tenth grade are not considered for scholarship eligibility.

PSAT 8/9, PSAT and the SAT are all part of the College Board. These tests contain material which covers mathematics, reading, writing and language. If more information is needed, your high school counselor is an additional resource.

Yes. Students who provide evidence that their disability affects participation in the exams may be eligible to take those exams with accommodations. All reasonable requests are considered, but must be applied for. The request process may take up to 8 weeks.
