Lone Star Governance
The intention of Lone Star Governance (LSG) is to provide a continuous improvement model for school board members, in collaboration with their superintendents, to focus intensively on one primary objective - improving student outcomes. Lone Star Governance accomplishes this intense focus through the execution of five points of the Texas Framework for School Board Development: Vision, Accountability, Structure, Unity and Advocacy.
In addition to Lone Star’s singular focus on improving student outcomes, it provides a system for governing the legal and fiscal responsibilities of the school board.
Mansfield ISD, selected to be a part of the inaugural LSG Exemplar Cohort, will engage in a process designed for high-performing local governing teams that are dedicated to continually sharpening and cultivating their focus on improving student outcomes.
Texas school districts and charters are overseen by school boards. The boards of independent school districts are elected by the citizens of their communities, while the boards of charter schools are appointed.
In each instance, the school board oversees the management of the district or charter school and ensures that the superintendent implements and monitors district operations. The board and the superintendent work together to bring about the best education possible for the students they serve.
To ensure boards carry out their jobs appropriately, school trustees are required to receive training in the laws and rules of the state education system.
Loan Star Governance Workshop
The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has developed an intensive, two-day workshop to provide a supportive space in which governing teams can learn about and prepare for the intense focus on improving student outcomes as described by the Lone Star Governance implementation fidelity instrument.
