OUTCOME
The Place 6 seat was won by Dr. Benita Reed with 77% of the votes. Incumbent, Courtney Lackey Wilson, ran uncontested and won the Place 7 seat.

After no candidate won a majority of the vote for Place 3 in the May 7 election, a special runoff election was held on Saturday, June 18 between the top two finishers.

OUTCOME
Craig Tipping won the Place 3 seat with 52% of the votes.

Four seats were on the ballot for the May 7 election. A general election with three seats (Place 3, Place 4 and Place 5) and a special election with one seat (Place 7) was held. Elected officials for Place 7, an unexpired term, would be required to run again in 2023.

The Place 4 seat was won by Keziah Valdes Farrar with 56% of the votes. Bianca Benavides Anderson won 51% of the votes for the Place 5 seat, and Courtney Lackey Wilson finished the race for the Place 7 seat with 57% of the votes. A runoff election was scheduled between the top two finishers of the Place 3 race (Dr. Benita C. Reed and Craig Tipping) since none of the candidates received a majority of votes.

OUTCOME
For Place 2, Desiree Thomas won the majority of votes with 56%. The Place 4 race ended with Keziah Valdes Farrar taking 51% of the votes for the win.

During an Aug. 10 called board meeting, the Mansfield ISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously to call a Voter-Approval Tax Rate Election (VATRE), or Penny Swap, for Nov. 2, 2021.

With voter approval, the Penny Swap would restructure the MISD tax rate, swapping 13 pennies from the Interest and Sinking (I&S) tax rate to the Maintenance and Operations (M&O) tax rate. Doing this would allow the district to maximize state funding, bringing approximately $24.7 million in additional revenue to the district each year.

Three seats were on the ballot for the May 1 election – Place 1, Place 2 and Place 4. Place 1 and Place 2, both three-year terms expiring May 2024, were up for re-election. Place 4, left vacant when former Trustee Raul Gonzalez retired, was an open seat with one year remaining.

For Place 1, Michelle Newsom won the majority of votes with 72%. A runoff election was scheduled for June 5 between the top two finishers for Place 2 (Desiree Thomas and Yolanda McPherson) and Place 4 (Keziah Valdes Farrar and Corinne Fiagome) since none of the candidates took the majority.
