District of Innovation

A District of Innovation is a concept passed by the 84th Legislative Session in House Bill 1842, effective immediately, that gives traditional independent school districts most of the flexibilities available to Texas’ open enrollment charter schools. To access these flexibilities, a school district must adopt an innovation plan, as set forth in the Texas Education Code chapter 12A. (TASB)

Mansfield ISD has chosen to explore and pursue this opportunity for flexibility to create new opportunities for and better serve our students. On this page, you will find the timeline MISD has laid out along with links to informative presentations, agendas of public meetings, and resources provided by the Texas Education Agency and the Texas Association of School Boards.

Local Innovation Plan

The updated District of Innovation plan was unanimously approved by the board of trustees on May 25, 2021 and will go into effect on July 1.A public meeting of the District Advisory Committee was held on April 15, 2021 to discuss and vote on an updated District of Innovation (DOI) Local Innovation Plan. The following amended plan was approved by the Board of Trustees on Tuesday, May 25, 2021.
