Mr. Ponce has slowly cultivated a favorite hobby and
turned it into a "second career" over the last few years. He began in
the fall of 1994 as the halftime announcer for the Mansfield HS Tiger
Marching Band and Gold Dusters drill team. 7 years later, he gave up
that duty but had taken on P.A. announcing duties for a variety of events
and tasks. This page includes a sampling of Mr. Ponce's announcing
"gigs" and what they involve.

Mr. Ponce's involvement in announcing sporting events began humbly, as the regular announcer for Mansfield HS soccer from 1999-2001. He later assumed the role of announcer for Mansfield HS softball from 2000-2002. Mr. Ponce's current slate of sports-related announcing duties is brief but impressive, as he is the regular announcer for Summit HS Jaguar basketball and Lady Jaguar basketball. Mr. Ponce also handles all music & sound for these events. In conjunction with his basketball commitments, Mr. Ponce serves as the announcer for those games of the Mansfield Rotary Invitational Girls Basketball Tournament which take place at Summit High School. Beginning in Fall, 2004, Mr. Ponce took on the announcing duties for Summit Jaguar Varsity Football. As the voice of Summit Football, he had the privilege of announcing the first regular season and playoff games at the new Mansfield ISD Stadium in 2006. In 2007, Mr. Ponce was appointed "The Voice of the Mansfield ISD Stadium," announcing all varsity football games at that facility, including playoff games hosted by the MISD.. |

SCHOOL-RELATED
Mr. Ponce's familiarity with the MHS Senior Class as a senior-level teacher, as well as his ability to pronounce names consistently and correctly, made him a logical choice to serve as one of the 3 "name readers" at MHS graduation in 1996. Beginning in 1998, Mr. Ponce was selected as the sole "name reader" for MHS commencement ceremonies. He held that role through 2002 and managed lists in excess of 700 names. Mr. Ponce continues this duty at Summit HS, whose list contained approximately 200 names in 2003, then swelled to over 800 in 2004. 2005 and 2006 saw over 600 students cross the stage. He appreciates the fact that every one of those graduates means the world to someone in the building, and he strives to do the best possible job for everyone. Additionally, Mr. Ponce was selected as the official voice of the Summit HS automated absence notification system. When your son or daughter is absent, the voice you hear informing you of it belongs to none other than Peter Ponce. You will also occasionally hear him on "all-call" phone announcements about events at Summit High School. |

OTHER
Mr. Ponce has had a few other opportunities to use his vocal abilities in recent years. One of the more notable events was the UTA "Percussion Bash" for Fall 2002, presented by the percussion ensemble at UT-Arlington. Mr. Ponce provided theatrical voice-overs between the different selections in the production. Mr. Ponce also provided a voice-over narration with the UTA Concert Band on a special flight-themed concert in Spring 2004. Mr. Ponce hopes to be involved in commercial voice-over work in the future and is currently registered with Voice123.com. So far, family and full-time teaching duties have precluded any voiceover work, but someday soon you just might hear Mr. Ponce on the radio or TV.
