EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITIES
Below are a few of the extra credit opportunities that are available in my class. There are often other opportunites that will come up during the semester, these will be posted in the classroom.
If you want extra credit, do these assignments or take advantage of the opportunites given in class. I will not come up with new extra credit opportunities the last week of the semester unless you have already done these.
Photos
First Nine Weeks: Alphabet Project: 50 points
You will need to photograph every letter of the alphabet one to a frame on a roll of color film. The letters need to be found on billboards or large signs because they will need to fill the frame and be in focus. To get the extra credit you must turn in 26 color prints arranged in A-Z order. The letters must all be in a different font. This means you will not be able to shoot all the letters off of one sign; you will have to look around and spend some time on this project. The pictures must be in focus. If the photos are out of focus, you will not get the credit. You may want to shoot more than one frame to make sure you have all of your pictures in focus.
Second Nine Weeks: Landscape Project: up to 50 points
**This project needs to be completed after we study Ansel Adams.
On a roll of Black and White film, photograph a landscape in the style of Ansel Adams. I will want to see that you have shot a whole roll of film and I will want you to make 1 8x10 to turn in for the extra credit. You will need to turn in to me your film, and the 8x10 B&W photo.
Papers
First Nine Weeks: Museum tour: up to up to 50 points
Go to the Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth and look at the Photography Collection. Choose four of your favorite photographs. Write down the name of the photograph, who took the photograph, and a brief description of the photograph. You will need to write me a two-page paper that analyzes these photographs according to their composition. Tell me the different compositional elements that are used and how they make these photographs worthy of being in a museum. You may talk about other photographs in the exhibit if you would like.
Second Nine Weeks: George Eastman and Kodak: up to 50 points
Research George Eastman and the Kodak Company and write a two-page typed paper on Eastman and his company. Be sure to include why Eastman is so very important to the development of modern day photography. You need to include references.
Publication
Any student that gets a photograph published in the local newspaper and brings me a copy of the newspaper and shows me their original photograph will receive 50 points of extra-credit.
Any student that gets a photo published in the school yearbook or newspaper will receive 30 points of extra-credit.
Project Information
Extra Credit Projects can be completed by anyone who is wishing to raise their grade. I will accept them up to the day before a progress report is handed out. (You may hand them in on a day that a progress report is delivered, but the points will not count until the next progress report.)
Extra Credit points can be use on snapshots, daily grades, or photo assignments.
If you are doing a photo assignment I expect perfect prints. You will receive extra credit points based ont he quality of prints so if what you turn in is not good you will get less than 50 points.
If you are doing a paper for extra credit I expect a typed paper that you would turn in to your English teacher. I expect correct spelling and grammar. I expect a list of references used and I expect you to give credit to any information that you take directly from a book, website, etc.
**If you need more extra credit opportunities, talk to me after you have completed the ones listed above. I will be happy to find more things to help you get the grade you want in this class
