Brown Elementary Students and MHS Cadets join forces for a Drug-Free Parade

November 2, 2009 - Mansfield High School JROTC cadets (J. McBroom, B. Maynard, A. Ewing, and E. Hansen) were on hand to meet students from Willie E. Brown Elementary on Friday. Willie Brown youth spent the week learning effective strategies to "Say No!" to drug abuse.

The indoor parade was coordinated by Mrs. Arnold from the Brown Counseling Center. Parents and volunteers were on hand to help out with the pumpkin-carving class afterwards.

The Texas PTA Reflections Awards Ceremony was held in Austin on Saturday, August 22, 2009. The ceremony was held for all students who received an Award of Merit or an Award of Excellence. Willie Brown students, Riley J. and Avery L. won awards.

Brown Elementary Students Celebrate Black History Month

February 2009 - Brown Elementary students and our reading specialist, Ms. Bynum, pose for photos commemorating the school's Black History Month celebration. 

During February, Ms. Bynum (pictured right) reads a description of a famous person daily on the announcements, and the students put their answers in a large answer bag.  Every morning she draws the name of the winner for the day and that student comes to the office to receive a prize.

The staff and students also created an African American bulletin board with photos and descriptions of famous Blacks in history (see photo below).
