Accuplacer Testing
TCC will be here after school on February 8th to give the Accuplacer test to current 10th and 11th graders interested in taking TCC classes for dual credit next year. The Reading and Writing portion of the test will be administered at that time. See your counselor to sign up to take the test on either of the above dates.

There will be a MANDATORY Informational meeting about try-outs on Monday, February 6th at 7:00 pm in the Willie Pigg Auditorium at Wester Middle School. Band Honors
8 students have been chosen as All-State Musicians. This is a record amount for Summit High School in one year. This was the most of any MISD High School and the most of any high school in Region 5.
The students will travel to San Antonio in February to perform at the 2012 Texas Music Educators Association Clinic/Convention. The following musicians were chosen for this honor through a competitive process held this year across the state at District, Region and Area levels:

High school students selected to perform in the All-State concerts have competed through several levels of auditions beginning in the fall of 2011 to arrive at the state level. All-State is the highest honor a Texas music student can receive. Over 1,500 students are selected through a process that began with over 60,000 students from around the state vying for this honor toperform in one of 13 ensembles (bands, orchestras and choirs). Texas Music Educators Association sponsors the Texas All-State competition. This competitive process begins throughout the state in auditions hosted by 28 TMEA Regions. Individual musicians perform selected music for a panel of judges who rank each instrument or voice part. From this ranking, a select group of musicians advances from their Region to compete against musicians from other areas in seven TMEA Area competitions. The highest-ranking musicians judged at the TMEA Area competitions qualify to perform in a TMEA All-State music groups. These All-State students participate in three days of rehearsals directed by nationally-recognized conductors during the TMEA Clinic/Convention. Their performances for thousands of attendees bring this extraordinary event to a close.
About the Texas All-State Music Ensemble
- Over 60,000 students initially entered the All-State competitive process
- 840 are selected to perform with All-State Concert and Jazz Bands
- 220 are selected to perform with All-State Orchestras
- 500 are selected to perform with All-State Choirs
- All-State performances will be held as part of the annual TMEA Clinic/Convention, February 8–11, 2012.
- Over 26,000 people from Texas and beyond will attend over 230 workshops, 60 performances and visit over 1,000 exhibit booths at this nation’s largest music educators convention.

Mulit-Scholarship Application
The MISD Community Multi-Scholarship Program on-line application process has begun for the 2011-12 school year. The main objective of the this program is to award as many scholarships as possible from local community groups to qualifying MISD graduating seniors. The effort has expanded from two scholarships in 1979 to more than eighty scholarships awarded last year to MISD graduating seniors.

TAKS Testing
Do you want to take a practice TAKS test? Go to the Summit Library Website for practice exams. Click on Library Databases, then on Gale Virtual Reference Library—password “jags”. Then scroll down to “Testing & Education Reference Center” Look under High School Tools for TAKS Practice Tests. You will need to create an account.
Medication Administration
School personnel may administer medication when such treatment is necessary for school attendance and cannot otherwise be accomplished. Download the form that must be completed along with the medication and/or special equipment items are brought to the school by the parent.
SAT and ACT Practice Exams
In order to help prepare students for college entrance exams we are
pleased to offer Practice Exams for the SAT and ACT. Each Exam is
followed up by a Results Seminar for students and parents.
Students take the full practice exam Saturday and return to a student/parent Exam
Strategy Seminar on an evening following the exam. Participants receive a score report,
learn strategies and have the opportunity to ask questions from our consultant.
Most of the exams and seminars will take place at the RL Anderson Complex, 1016

ROTC AWARD

In October 2010, 1138 JROTC teams competed in Phase I of the JROTC Leadership and Academic Bowl. This competition consisted of two on line phases of SAT/ACT type question. Every team that scored above 50 percent in phase one moved on to phase two in February 2011. After phase two, combining the scores from the first two phases, the top forty teams were invited on an all expensed trip to the nation’s capitol to determine the U. S. Army JROTC Champion. Our team consisting of First Sergeant’s Wesley Galbraith, Ballal Qazi, and Stephen Shotkoski and Corporal Mariah Zielke were among the top forty teams. This is the first team from any Mansfield ISD school to travel to Washington D.C. to compete in the championship. All the Leadership Teams were ranked 1 through 40. Summit High School ended up in SIXTH place. |

Transcripts and Records Requests
Parents/Students Education Records Request must be completed and a photo ID must be attached to request student record information, including Transcript requests. Students who are 18 or have graduated will have to request their transcripts and other information, parents can no longer request this information on your behalf. However, you may designate them to pick up the transcript or information being requested. Once the Registrar receives the Parents/Students Education Records Request, a copy of your ID and payment of $1.00 per transcript, your request will be processed within 24 hours. You may come in M-F from 6:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. to request records and pay for your transcript or mail your request to the school.
