It will be senior night for the MISD Varsity hockey team this Thursday evening at the Euless Stars Center.  Come watch the 9:15 game against Grapevine/Colleyville and join us earlier for the senior presentation.  Best of Luck varsity players and congratulations to all eleven seniors.

The Lady Jags Soccer team opened district last night with a resounding win over Crowley 8-0!!!
Ashley "Birthday Girl" Cottrell and her "Best Bud" Antoinette Bennett each scored twice. Heather "Oops" Godek, Justine "Herbal Tea" Abella, Unos, Dos, Trae Dimanche, and Mari  Chavez rounded out the scoring. Megan "Princess" Breese and Alissa "Bacon" Larson added assists. Great Job Ladies, next up is undefeated Burleson Centennial Friday!!

The MISD varsity hockey team performed well against Denton County, beating them 4-2.  Bobby Baumeister led the scoring with 2 while T.J. Brown and Tanner Woody had once apiece.  Junior Kyle Watson had a great night with three assists on those goals, and Tanner Woody and Owen Thompson each contributed one.  Senior Matt Pressley had an impressive showing in net for the win.  4  more games until the playoffs,  keep it up guys!!

The JROTC Battalion in conjunction with Carter Blood Care will be hosting a Blood Drive on Wednesday, February 15th.  Sixteen and seventeen year old students must have a signed permission slip in order to donate blood.  Sign-ups will be on the stage in the commons today through Tuesday February 14th.  
Show your Summit Love and give the gift of life for up to three people.

We will have donuts for sale again in the morning so bring your 50 cents -$1.  These are donut shop donuts!

FROG week shirts are in!!  They are long sleeve, purple shirts and they cost $15 each.  We have a limited number so come by during lunch and get your shirt today!! 

Tonight we have our FROG fest carnival in the commons.  It costs $2 to get in and it is from 5-8:30.  We will have a Pie in the Face booth, face paint, a basketball bungee run, a joust, henna tattoos, food and much more.   Bring some spending money for inside the carnival!  This event is open to the whole community!!  Don’t forget to eat at Uncle Bo’s today and let them know you are from Summit!!

IHOP called yesterday and said that they have a SHS class ring in their lost and found.  It says “Cody”

Today is pajama pants day, but you must buy your pajama pass.   You MUST wear your pajama pass attached to your ID.  If you do not have your lime green pajama pass, you will be sent to your AP’s office. 

Today at lunch we have face paint, pick an AP to pie in the face for the Friday pep rally on stage, cupcakes and cookies for sale, and Kinect Just Dance 3 on stage.

Today is the first official dress up day for FROG week!!!  Today at lunch we have face paint, pick an AP to pie in the face for the Friday pep rally on stage, and truffles and cupcakes for sale.  Duct tape Mr. Neal to the wall has been moved to Friday since he is not at school today!  Plan for that on Friday!

Tuesday is pajama pants day, but you must buy your pajama pass.  Bring your $1 by the student council room today during all lunches and tomorrow morning to buy your pajama pass.  You MUST wear your pajama pass attached to your ID.

Visitors can participate in group sessions about admission, scholarships and financial aid. Academic departments, colleges and student services will also provide information and host activities. During the day, participants can meet current students, tour the campus and residence halls, and see all that Texas A&M has to offer. Congratulations to Summit’s own Christina Koo for becoming the new 2012-2013 Lieutenant Governor for Division 39 South Texas-Oklahoma District Key Club. We wish her the best in her new position.

1)  PTSA will host a College and Career Fair, this Saturday, Jan 28th fom 8 til 1pm.  Please come and visit with our Financial Aid Specialist, get help with your FASFA and visit with the 15 colleges and Career Techs.  The Go center will be open and we will have information on the SAT, Scholarships and Financial Aid every hour.
2) Needing Community Service Hours?  There will be a meeting on Wednesday afterschool in the Jag room for all students that would like to earn community service hours this Saturday at the College Fair.  We need 10 to 15 students to help.  Please see Mrs McCollins in room D14 if you have any questions. 

The mandatory parent meeting for ALL Every 15 Minutes applicants is tonight at 7 pm in the lecture hall.  Make sure you and your parent attend.  If you are unable to attend this meeting, there will be a make-up session on Wednesday, January 25th at 7 pm in the lecture hall.  This will be the last meeting.  You are required to attend a meeting or you will not be allowed to participate in the program!

If you are a student council class officer, we have a mandatory meeting tomorrow after school in the student council room at 2:45 pm.  You are REQUIRED to attend.

FROG week is coming!!!  FROG week will begin this Friday with a spring sports/messy pep rally.  If you would like to participate in the messy pep rally you can sign up on stage today during lunch and Wednesday during lunch.  You may be chosen to eat off someone’s feet, pick worms out of a worm pie with your mouth, or have an ice cream sundae built on top of your head!  Sign up since we need at least one boy and one girl from each grade level!

Can you sing, dance, rap, or play an instrument?  We have a talent show during FROG week and auditions are tomorrow in the student council room at 3 pm.  The show is February 1st at 7 pm in the PAC.  All students are encouraged to try out and come watch the show.  There is a $5 fee for trying out.  Please bring the fee and your music tomorrow after school!  You will win a cash prize if you win the talent show!

There will be a Summit Book Club Meeting tomorrow after school in Room C5.  We will continue our discussion of The Hunger Games trilogy.

The Lady Jags defeated the big, bad 5A Colleyville Heritage Panthers last night who are led by the former Summit Soccer coach Misail Tsapos. The Lady Jags netted 3 goals to Heritage's 2!!! The Summit scoring was led by Mari "Tatted Up" Chavez, Ashley " Heeeyyy" Cottrell, Antoinette "Kleenexes" Bennett, and Megan "Princess" Breese. Also playing outstanding games were Melynda "Pink Ribbon" Rodriguez and Unos, Dos, Trae Dimanche. Great job ladies and good luck vs Souyhlake Carroll tonight and Arlington HS Saturday!!!

CALLING ALL DANCERS!!!  Would you like to perform at football games, pep rallies or basketball games next year? If you do, the Sapphires are looking for some new recruits to join their team next year.  There will be a MANDATORY Informational meeting about try-outs on Thursday, January 26th and Monday,  February 6th at 7:00 pm in the Willie Pigg Auditorium at  Wester Middle School.  You must attend one of these meetings with a parent in order to try-out for next years team.  Please bring a current original copy of a utility bill when you attend.  Hope to see you there!

We have a student council meeting tomorrow during all lunches.  If you are a current member of student council, please make sure you attend.  We will talk about points and FROG week!!!!  We will wait 5 minutes after each lunch to begin the meeting.  Feel free to bring your lunch into the room and eat with us in there!

If you ordered a hoodie or sweatpants before the winter break, the order will be in tomorrow.  We will deliver your items to your 3rd block class. 

Attention Key Club: There will NOT be a meeting this week due to final exams.  Repeat, Key Club will NOT meet this week due to final exams.  We wish all students the best of luck on your finals.

We will NOT be recycling either, so teachers, save your recycling buckets for next week. Thanks!!!

You are not allowed to park your vehicle in the neighborhoods across the street from campus. All students must park in the student section of the Summit parking lot. These spaces are marked with white paint. Students are not allowed to park in visitor parking or in the faculty spots that are marked with yellow paint. Student vehicles must have a valid MISD student parking permit. Permits can be obtained at the MISD police office located behind Wester Middle School.

The Lady Jaguars began play Friday night with a win over last years 4-5A District Champions, Timberview. The ladies wasted no time, as Marisela Chavez scored in the first minute of play. Also scoring were Justine Abella and Elida Flores. The Lady Jags defense was "rock solid" led by Bailey Upp, Katie LeBlanc, Alissa Larson, and "newbie fish GK" Cat Oliver. Great start "Dream Team"!!!!!

If you want to add some excitement to your Thursday, come watch the Mansfield varsity hockey players take on McKinney at the Euless Stars Center.  Student admission is $3.00 and the puck drops at 8:45pm.  The JV hockey team will play Marcus this Sunday at 5:30pm at the Farmers Branch Stars Center.  Best of luck to both teams.

On Friday, 1-6-2012, if you have Ben Barber, you need to come to Summit first block  for your new schedules, results for the PSAT, ASVAB, and your Exemptions. Do Not go to BB first. You will go to your Advisory class, and the advisory rooms  will be posted around the building.

TCC Students, if you are finished with your classes and do not need your TCC Books, please turn those in ASAP. Bring them to K Hall and turn them into Mrs. Blackburn.

There has been a change in the time we are going to advisory on Friday. Students will be dismissed from their 2nd block class at 9:40. You will then report to your TESTING ROOM by 9:47. The lists that were posted earlier this week were incorrect. New lists will be posted by Wednesday afternoon. Please check the lists in the hallways on Thursday to find out which room you will report to at 9:47 on Friday. This will be the same room you were in on the day we gave tests in October. If you were not enrolled at Summit in October, you still need to report to your assigned room to obtain other information.  If you have a morning Ben Barber class on A days, you will be dismissed from your Ben Barber class early enough to make it back over here to Summit by 9:47.

When you arrive at your testing room, you will receive test results, exemption forms, and a current copy of your spring schedule.

Congratulations to our jaguar swimmers for their performances at the 6th annual MISD invitational!!
Aaron Guthrie, Matt Dyl, Danny Ribera, Clark Navidad ended up within the top 5 in their 200 medley relay, as well as Keaton Mallory, Justin Vazquez, Danny Rivera and Jonathan Alvarado made it into to finals in their 400 free relay!!
On the girls side, Monica Lopez, Emily MIller, Katie Lobodzinski and Jenna Zapata also made it to finals in their 400 free relay!
Special congratulations to Jenna Zapata for getting a New School Record in her 100 fly with a time of 104.66 Great job!!!

There will be a Student meeting for all PTSA members tomorrow after school. All Student members are encouraged to attend. That's Thursday after school, December 8. PTSA student meeting.

The MISD JV hockey team was in action this past weekend with a hard-fought 3-2 loss to Southlake.  Freshman Adam Schrek scored both goals in the game while Mason Clark and James Sullivan aided on the assists.  Goalie Zach Endy  turned in a great performance.  Varsity hockey resumes this Thursday evening at 9:00pm at the Farmers Branch Stars Center where they will be facing Richardson/Rockwall .  Go Mansfield Hockey!

Congratulations to Summit High School’s Key Club for winning the UNICEF Traveling Trophy by collecting $373.89. Way to go!!!

Key Club will be having a 5K run this SATURDAY with Kiwanis, our adult counterpart, at 8 in the morning! We need volunteers to man stations! Come meet us at Rose Park in Mansfield.

Be sure to attend the City of Mansfield’s Hometown Holiday event Friday December 2 and see Key Club’s holiday tree.  Our tree’s theme is “Sailing the High Seas of Service” and the tree is decorated in a beach theme with beautiful seashells and sailboats.  The decorated trees will be donated to local families in the community that might not otherwise have a tree for the holidays.

The JROTC Battalion in conjunction with Carter Blood Care will be hosting a Blood Drive This Thursday, December 1st.  Sixteen and seventeen year old students must have a signed permission slip in order to donate bolood.  Sign ups will be on the stage in the commons today through Wednesday 30 November.

We have a student council meeting today during all lunches.  If you are a current member of student council, please make sure you attend.  We will talk about points and upcoming community service events.  We will wait 5 minutes after each lunch to begin the meeting.  Feel free to bring your lunch into the room and eat with us in there!

Attention Key Club:  Be sure to attend the meeting tomorrow, WEDNESDAY, either before or after school.  We will be talking about our two big events this week, the Holiday Tree Challenge and the Common Ground Christmas Adoption.  We have adopted 7 children for the holidays. Come learn what their needs are and how you can be a part of bringing joy to the season!

Report cards will be handed to students this Friday, November 18th during 2nd block. Students who have a 2nd block office aide assignment will need to report to F Hall office to get their report cards. Students who have a 2nd block TCC class on Friday will need to report to Ms. Hudgins’ office for their report cards once they return to Summit.  Grades will also be posted to Infinite Campus by end of day on Friday.

The meeting will begin at 2:45 and is required if you would like to participate in try-outs which will begin on Monday, Nov. 28- Friday, Dec 2 as soon as we return from Thanksgiving Break

This week is the Thanksgiving Food Drive!!  If you have a 2nd block A day class, you have until this Friday to bring canned goods and non-perishable items to your 2nd block class.  The class that donates the most items wins a pizza party!!  All food will be donated to the Common Ground Network, an organization that will distribute the food to local food pantries and families in need.  Help others this holiday season and give a little!!

If you are a current student council member, we have our yearbook photo this Wednesday at 11 am.  Wear your blue stuco shirt Wednesday and meet at the Varsity gym foyer at 11 am for our yearbook photo!  Don’t forget!!  If you are a current class officer, we also have officer photos Wednesday.  See Mrs. Waneck for a list of scheduled times for class officer photos.

The Lady Jag golf team competed in the Texas 2-Step Tournament last weekend against their toughest competition of the year.  Our golfers finished 14th overall.  Senior, Julia Bazaldua had her best tournament as a Lady Jag and the best individual performance in Summit history.  On the first day, at TangleRidge Golf Course, Julia shot even par 72 to tie for the lead.  She rose to the occasion on Saturday at Mansfield National by shooting 2 under par 70 to win the individual championship.  Congratulations, Julia.

The Lady Jags will finish their fall season next Monday at Walnut Creek Golf Club.  Good luck, ladies.

Bikes for Angels is a fundraiser to help purchase bikes for needy children at Christmas.  Mansfield students raised 26,000 dollars and purchased 600 bikes last year.  We are shooting for 700 this year but we need your help.  You can pick up flyers in the Automotive area.  Any funds go to purchase bikes.  We cashed in over 9,000.00 worth of change last year so every dime counts.  We are still in need of auction items for our Auction Dinner that will be at Ben barber on Dec 2nd at 7:00 pm.   We hope all of you will join in with us to break last years record. Thank you and have a happy holiday season.

Tickets are $7.00 and include pancakes, sausage and a drink.  You can purchase tickets from any boys’ basketball player or  bring family and friends to Applebee’s on Saturday morning.

The Summit JROTC Battalion will be on the stage during all lunches October 31st - November 4th for a SIGN THE STUD Habitat for Humanity Fundraiser.  Students/Faculty will have the opportunity to sign (for a $1.00) or decorate a foot (for $3.00) of a wooden stud that will be going into a house that Habitat for Humanity and the four Mansfield JROTC units will be building right here in Mansfield this spring.  All of the money raised will be donated to Habitat for Humanity to help defray the cost of the building materials for the house we are going to build.  This is a good way for each and every one of you to give back and show your Summit Love.

Bikes for Angels is a fundraiser to help purchase bikes for needy children at Christmas.  Mansfield students raised 26,000 dollars and purchased 600 bikes last year.  We are shooting for 700 this year but we need your help.  You can pick up flyers in the Automotive area.  Any funds go to purchase bikes.  We cashed in over 9,000.00 worth of change last year so every dime counts.  We are still in need of auction items for our Auction Dinner that will be at Ben barber on Dec 2nd at 7:00 pm.   We hope all of you will join in with us to break last years record. Thank you and have a happy holiday season.

This beautiful coming of age comedy tells the story of two young boys who, due to family trials and the challenges of a World War II torn society, are forced to live with their aging Grandmother, their unsual aunts, and their street smart uncle. The MISD JV hockey team lost in a hard fought game against Frisco.  Cameron Clark was the lone goal scorer with Adam Schreck on the assist.  They will play again this Sunday at the Euless Stars Center.  Game time is 4:30 against Richardson/Rockwall.  The varsity players take the ice Thursday evening at the Euless Stars Center.  Game time is 7:30 against Southlake.  Good luck to both teams.

The Summit Band competed in the UIL Region 5 Marching Band Contest Tuesday afternoon at Pennington Field in Bedford.  The band earned its tenth consecutive Sweepstakes award and received Superior ratings from all contest adjudicators.  In addition, the band earned the right to compete in the UIL Area B Marching Band Contest in Carrolton on October 29th.

Congratulations to all of the Summit Band students for a job well done!

Congratulations to Julia Bazaldua, Maddie Molinar, Marina Farrow and Chelsea Henshaw, members of the Lady Jag Golf Team, for their 2nd place finish in their tournament yesterday at Waterchase Golf Club.  Leading the team was Sr., Julia Bazaldua, who shot a 78 to finish 1st overall.  The girls will be in action again at the Texas 2-Step Tournament on November 4-5.

Student Council is extending the book drive to this Friday.  Please donate gently used books to the student council room or room I-7 or H-5.  We are mostly looking for children’s books, but will take adult books as well.  All books will be donated to the Arlington Women’s shelter, a safe haven for women in abusive relationships.  The book drive will end on Friday, October 21st!!

This Thursday is officially PINK OUT at Summit in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month!!  We want to see everyone wearing Pink on Thursday!  Starting on Thursday, you can come up to the stage and purchase a pink breast cancer awareness ribbon for 50 cents.  All proceeds will be donated to the Moncrief Cancer Institute.  We will also collect donations at lunch, so please make sure you bring spare change on Thursday and Friday.  You can also sign your name to a pink heart on the stage and show that you support the fight against breast cancer.  We will make a big pink ribbon in the commons.  Teachers, you are also allowed to wear jeans on Thursday with your pink out clothing!  Let’s paint the school pink on Thursday!!

The MISD varsity hockey team scored another victory beating Flower Mound 8-3.  Garrett Weitzel was top scorer with 2 goals and 2 assists.  Bobby Baumeister and Spencer Erickson contributed 2 goals apiece while T.J. Brown and Mike Mills each earned one.  Owen Thompson, Tanner Woody and Bryce Claxton had two assists each.  Mike Mills, Kyle Watson, Donny Watson and Daniel Soltesz   all earned one assist in the game.  Congratulations players!!

Please don’t let this happen to you! Get that POR turned in to the Counseling Center before Friday!

This Saturday, October 1 the Cross Country team is having a fundraiser at Chili’s on 287 and Little Road.  The Summit Cross Country team will receive 10% of all receipts turned in with a Cross Country Flyer.  Please see any Cross Country member or Coach Utley to pick-up a flyer and go eat at Chili’s on Saturday!   It includes take-out or eating-in and you can go at any time they are open on Saturday.  Come support the Cross Country team on Saturday!

You only have 4 more Days to buy tickets and No tickets sold at the door. You can get them at lunch on the stage for $8.00 or two for $15.00. Get them now because there is a limited number. This is promised to be  BEST Homecoming Summit has had.

Yesterday the Summit Boys Golf Team competed in the Sam Houston Shoot Out at Water Chase Golf Course in Ft. Worth.  The team was led by Senior Kyle Booza, who finished 2nd overall with a 2 over score of 74.  Also competing for the Jags were :Jacob Alvarado, Clayton McLucas, Garrett Hargis and Cameron Cowden.  Great Job Summit Golf!

President Obama will be addressing students all across America today at 12:30. Your third block teacher will be showing this speech during the last part of class today in your regular third block classroom.

If you have “C” lunch, you may go to the varsity gym to watch the speech.

To become a member of student council this year, your $20 dues need to be paid at The Spot by the end of the day today!  We have our annual student council lock-in on Friday here at Summit from 7-midnight.  You have to be a current, paid member to attend.  If you have already paid your dues, please come by The Spot today to get your bracelet for entrance into the lock-in.  If you do not have a bracelet, you will not be admitted into the lock-in.  We will hand out member shirts at the lock-in and eat dinner/have lots of games and fun!

The Summit and Mansfield cheerleaders are having a “spirit challenge” this week at Chick-Fil-A in Mansfield. The restaurant will be decorated for both schools. Anytime you eat at Chick-Fil-A this week be sure to say you support Summit High School. The school with the most participation will be named the Chick-Fil-A Spirit Challenge Winners and will receive a portion of the sales.

Attention TCC students:  Students taking TCC classes need to come by the K-hall office to pick up textbooks. You must have a current Summit ID and have paid your TCC tuition in order to receive the required books.  The cost is $50.00 per course, per semester.  The deadline to pay TCC fees is Friday, September 9.  See the bookkeeper to pay your fees.  If you have not paid by the deadline, you’ll be removed from the TCC class and placed in a regular class, where you’ll immediately be 3 weeks behind, so take care of your fees.

Students: MISD police and VSA Security will begin issuing tickets for parking violations beginning Thursday, Sept 1.  Parking permits are available at the MISD police station located behind Wester Middle School.  Teachers and staff – contact any campus police officer for information regarding staff permits.

Jaguar Nation: Congratulations to our varsity football team, now 1-0 after beating Fossil Ridge 38-22.  JV and Freshman A teams also beat the Panthers.  This Friday we face Legacy at Newsom Stadium at 7:30pm.  Wear your Western clothing on Friday as we “Round Up the Broncos.”  Tickets will be available in the bookkeeper’s office - $3 for students and $6 for adults.

Seniors – Shirt order forms are still available from your English teacher or from Ms. Gilmore in room I-2 . The first order has been made and shirts will be delivered as soon as they arrive. The next order will be placed on September 9th.  The cost is $12 for one shirt or both for $20.  Remember that you must wear one of the senior shirts for the panoramic picture on October 5th!  Please see Ms. Gilmore if you have any questions.

On Friday, the Summit Cross Country teams competed in their first meet of the season in Hebron.  All of the athletes did a great job in extremely hot temperatures!  The Varsity Girls finished 5th as a team with top finisher Jennifer Shealey leading the way.  The Varsity Boys competed well against some very stiff competition and finished 6th as a team led by top finisher Alie Mohammad.  The JV Girls finished 10th out of 22 teams and freshman Shiloh Peach lead the way as the top finisher for the girls.  Newcomer Michael Raimondi led the JV Boys to a 14th place team finish.  Congratulations Cross Country!

Do you like to help out your community, recycle, make new friends, and possibly recieve scholarships along the way?  Then Key Club is the club for you!  Not only is this club helpful to the community, it also looks great on your college applications.  If you’re interested in joining, meet us in the lecture hall on Wednesdays at either 6:45 a.m. or 2:45pm.  Teachers, don't forget to put your recycling bins out on Wednesday.

Attention soccer players: Any boy that is interested in playing soccer this year needs to come to room B-3 and talk to Coach McDonald before 11:15 today.  There is a player/parent meeting tonight at 7:00pm in the gym and you need to pick up the information today.

t is time to search for the stars of another season of Summit Theatre! Are you an actor, singer, or dancer? would you like to work backstage in a technical position? Come out and audition for Summit's Fall Play and Winter Musical! Auditions begin next Monday, August 29 and last through Friday, September 2 in the PAC. Come by the PAC or F6 and see Mr. Ervin or Mrs. Simmons to sign up and find out much more detailed information! ALL are welcome and NO experience is necessary! The deadline to have your 2011-12 ID made will be this Friday. All students will be expected to have a visible Summit ID around their neck at all times beginning Monday.

ID’s are made in the library. The cost for an ID is $5. You may get your ID’s made before school, during lunch, or after school. Get your ID made today!

Come out and audition for Summit's Fall Play and Winter Musical! Auditions begin next Monday, August 29 and last through Friday, September 2 in the PAC. Come by the PAC or F6 and see Mr. Ervin or Mrs. Simmons to sign up and find out much more detailed information! ALL are welcome and NO experience is necessary!
