Mary Belle Brennand Orr was
an English teacher in the Mansfield Independent
School District for more than 32 years, from
1943 through 1976.
Mary spent her childhood in Colorado
City, Texas, where she was born on May 8, 1911.
Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. R.S. Brennand,
one of the pioneer families of West Texas.
After graduating from high school
in Colorado City, Mary continued her education
at Hardin Simmons University in Abilene and
received her bachelor's degree in June 1933.
She never ceased her quest for knowledge and
returned many times to continue
her education at Abilene Christian College,
McMurray College, the University of Texas at
Austin, North Texas State College, and Texas
Weslyan College.
In the small West Texas town of
Iatin, Mary Orr began her teaching career in
1933. She later taught for six years in
Chalk, Texas. From there, she and her
husband, James Thomas, moved to Mansfield.
She taught in the Mansfield Independent School
District until her retirement in 1976.
The Mansfield Independent School

this beloved and dedicated teacher with this
