November 2011 -

Glenn Harmon held a Book Parade to celebrate its Literacy Week, Launching into Genres.  The parade took place on Wednesday, November 9th.  Each grade level class picked their favorite book and designed a float to parade around the school by several lucky students.

 

May 2011 -

Career Day was held at Glenn Harmon Elementary on May 3. The students spent the morning rotating to different classrooms in the building to hear presentations by engineers, business leaders, a cake decorator, emergency personal, a dog groomer and an animal trainer from the Dallas Aquarium. This event was a wonderful opportunity for students to learn more about different industries.

Our wonderful music teacher, Catherine Schulze, was recently awarded the Chesapeake Energy Hero Award from Score a Goal in the Classroom! Read the full story here on the MISD Blog!

March 2011 -

The MISD Education Foundation presented our school with the following grants:

  • $3,954.20 to fund "Serious About Seniors," submitted by Sharon Ferguson, Edith Milam,
    Deborah Jones, Anne-Marie St. John, Catherine Shulze, Lori Goller and Vanessa Floyd
  • $1,542.50 to fund "You Read, I Read, We All Read iBooks!" submitted by Deborah Jones
  • $1,536.95 to fund "Soaring to the Solar System," submitted by Lindsay Cottle, Nada Martin,
    Jan Briggs, Anne-Marie St. John, Lynette Hodges and Amy Albright
  • $469.12 to fund "Reading Leads to Masterpieces," submitted by Deborah Jones and Anne-Marie St. John

Additionally, two district-wide elementary grant programs were announced:

  • $4,299.00 to fund "Boom, Pow, Poof: Future Engineers Creating Chain Reactions," submitted by Andrea Bond, Charlotte Coker, Yvette Jones and Amy Senato
  • $2,799.64 to fund "Ooey, Gooey Squishy Fun," submitted by Amy Senato

February 2011 -

Congratulations to our 2011 Spelling Bee winner, Janelle Wongany. Great job!

Our spelling bee champion will next compete among all K-8 campus winners around the district at the District Spelling Bee on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at Legacy High School. Good luck to Janelle!
