2008-09 School Year

January 14, 2009 - Smith Elementary held its annual School Spelling Bee. The bee consisted of 21 third and fourth grade Smith students. Dr. Claude Cunningham, Associate Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction, was the pronouncer and Reading Specialist Ms. Cordelia Thompson facilitated the program. The winner, third grade student Megan Overby, will advance to the district level competition next semester.

The MISD Education Foundation awarded Smith Elementary over $3,000 in grants on Wednesday, November 12. Our winners are:
"Connect with Corefx" - Kath Cain, Nanette Thompson
"Super Size It - Stallion Style" - Shene' Benton, Natalie Nava, Betty Nelson, Tibitha Rhodes, Christie Flores
"Our Library Has Arthur, Clifford, Horton...But no ELMO" - Anne James

May 2008 - For the second year in a row, Mr. Patton's tug-of-war team wins big. The team takes a moment to display their strength after the tournament.
