February 2011 - Black History Month Read-a-thon
During the month of February, D.P. Morris celebrated Black History Month. Each day following our morning announcements, the students viewed a small video excerpt about famous African Americans. Some of these included Martin Luther King, Jr., Jackie Robinson, Dr. Mae Jemison, George Washington Carver, Louis Armstrong, Mayor Tom Bradley, and President Obama. The children enjoyed learning about these people through the use of our promethean boards.
On February 18, we invited Mr. and Mrs. Sneed (photos below) to read to the classes. The students gathered in the library to listen to Mr. and Mrs. Sneed read grade appropriate books and discuss interesting facts about black history. This time was very informative and enjoyed by all.
