Meet Danny Jones
Danny R. Jones was born on February 1, 1943 in Lubbock County, Texas. He is the third of five children of Walter and Reba Jones. Danny spent his childhood in Graham Chapel and Post, Texas, where he attended school. In the fourth grade, a teacher named Mrs. Raphelt influenced Mr. Jones to pursue a career in education.
After graduation, he taught for two years in northwest Texas and then moved to New Mexico for a year. He returned to Texas and taught near the Gulf for a year. From there he taught math at La Vega High School in Waco where he was named "Teacher of the Year."
Mr. Jones went back to teaching art in Clarksville and met his wife Lynn. After having their first child, the Joneses were looking for work in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Danny interviewed for a position at Mansfield High School, in the building that is now Brooks Wester Middle School. They moved to Mansfield in 1974. His children Mike and Kay both graduated from Mansfield schools. Lauren Lyles, a 1987 graduate of Mansfield High School, remembers Danny as not only her favorite teacher, but also the one teacher who was most influential in her life. "He and I shared the same degrees; we both majored in art education and minored in math education," said Lyles. "Danny is the most wonderful man."
