High School Summer School Course Offerings

Summer school offers students the opportunity to take courses for Credit Recovery or Credit Acceleration. Courses are divided into two semesters. Each semester counts ONE half credit. Students can sign up for either ONE half credit course or TWO courses each worth a half credit. If a student needs to attain or regain credit for a full year-long course, the student would need to complete both semesters of the course. Summer School FAQ for High School Students

High School Online Credit Recovery

Online credit recovery courses are designed for students who need to regain credit for classes they have previously failed. The courses are conducted online utilizing Odysseyware, but students are required to attend daily classes at Summit High School during Session I (June 19 – June 29) and/or Session II (July 10 – July 20).

High School Virtual School Acceleration Courses

Virtual school acceleration courses are online classes that provide students with the flexibility to complete course assignments as their schedule permits. These classes are not self-paced classes because a student may be penalized if he/she does not maintain a pace to complete the course in the designated timeframe. However, students may work ahead in the course and possibly complete the course before the designated end-date.

Students are able to access Virtual School courses 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Therefore, Virtual School courses require students to come to campus only for midterm and final exams throughout the summer. Open Lab for Virtual School students to take mid-term and final exams is available June 12 – July 20 from 8:00 a.m. – noon at Summit High School with the exception of July 3 – 6, 2017.

Satisfactory pace is the daily pace required to complete the course by the designated end date. Example: If the course is scheduled for 42 calendar days (6 weeks), then a student must complete 2.4% per day in order to complete the course on time. Pace is determined by a 7-day week and not the 4-day week for summer school.

If a student does not maintain a satisfactory pace in the course, he/she will be required to attend Open Lab at Summit High School until a satisfactory pace is obtained.
