Texas House Bill 505 Expands Dual Credit Opportunities - A new state law was put into effect that expands the opportunities students have to earn college credit while still enrolled in high school.
Texas House Bill 505 (HB505) places no limits on the number of college courses high school students can take for dual credit. Also under the law, students are able to participate in dual credit programs as early as their freshman year, rather than their junior year.
For the 2015-2016 school year, Mansfield ISD will honor its agreements and partnerships currently in place related to our dual credit programs. Families who wish to add courses to their junior or senior student’s schedule this spring may do so as long as they have not exceeded their current agreement and there is space in the course. Students who wish to take additional coursework must do so outside of the school day at their own expense. Only courses within our current agreement will be awarded dual credit. A list of courses may be found in the course guide.
If you have any questions about HB505 and MISD’s current position, please contact Jennifer Castrillo, post-secondary coordinator, at email@example.com.
