Mansfield ISD is proud to honor the men and women who served in the U.S. Armed Forces. Veterans Day is a federal holiday celebrated annually on Nov. 11, and several MISD campuses will hold special breakfasts, programs and events to honor military veterans.
Charlotte Anderson Elementary – Anderson Elementary, in conjunction with Miller Elementary, will have an assembly on Nov. 11 to honor family members who are veterans. A reception will begin at 1:30 p.m., and the assembly will start at 2 p.m.
J.L. Boren Elementary – Boren elementary will host a Veterans Day breakfast on the morning of Nov. 11. Students are encouraged to invite their veteran family members or friends to enjoy some treats in appreciation of their service.
Louise Cabaniss Elementary - Cabaniss Elementary will host a veterans breakfast at 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 11. Veterans will then go to individual classrooms to read a book, share stories, talk about their jobs, and show their uniforms and medals. Around 9:30 a.m., the boy scouts will lead a flag ceremony and the choir will sing songs honoring veterans. Veterans will leave the program to a hallway lined with students who will have streamers and flags as they celebrate the veterans.
Anna May Daulton Elementary – Daulton Elementary will host its annual Veterans Day breakfast on Nov. 11 at 7:20 a.m., which will be sponsored by its PTA. At 8 a.m., there will be a Veterans Day celebration that will include the boy scouts, poems from students, songs from the choir and a cheer by the cheer club. The Lake Ridge High School band will also be there to perform.
Kenneth Davis Elementary - Davis Elementary will invite veterans and their families to the Harmony Celebration on Friday, Nov. 11 at 8 a.m. The veterans will be honored for their service, and a special reception will follow after the program.
Imogene Gideon Elementary - Gideon Elementary will unveil a “wall of honor” in the front vestibule on Nov. 11 with pictures of staff, parents or family members who are in or have served in the military. In partnership with the PTA, the campus will host a breakfast for veterans in the library starting at 7:15 a.m. The Musical Gators, Gideon Elementary’s choir, will perform.
Carol Holt Elementary - Holt Elementary will be having a Veterans Day program on Nov. 11 at 1 p.m. Family and friends of students who are veterans are all invited to partake in the day of singing and celebration.
Thelma Jones Elementary – Jones Elementary will host a Veterans Day program on Nov. 11 at 8 a.m. There will be a performance by the music class. Military personnel will be part of the special speakers.
Judy K. Miller Elementary - Miller Elementary, in conjunction with Anderson Elementary, will have an assembly on Nov. 11 to honor family members who are veterans. A reception will begin at 1:30 p.m., and the assembly will start at 2 p.m.
D.P. Morris Elementary - Morris Elementary is holding a Veterans Day tribute on Nov. 11 at 8 a.m. in the front courtyard. Students will honor veterans by singing patriotic songs and introducing relatives/visitors who have served our country.
Erma Nash Elementary - Nash Elementary will have its annual Cupcakes with Veterans event. The event will start with a parade in which veterans walk through the decorated halls lined by the entire student body holding flags. They will then go to the cafeteria to listen to a poem read by student, followed by three patriotic songs sung by all of the fourth graders. The veterans will then introduce themselves and enjoy cupcakes with their student.
Nancy Neal Elementary - Students at Neal Elementary have been asked to invite any friends and/or family members who have served in the military for a special performance. The program will be held on Nov. 11 at 8:30 a.m. in the school’s gym. Students are asked to wear red, white or blue for the occasion.
Annette Perry Elementary - On Nov. 10 at 6:30, Perry Elementary second-grades will have a veterans-themed music program in the cafeteria. The next morning at 8:30 a.m., the students will give another performance of the program. Guest veterans who are family members of students and staff are invited to attend and be recognized. All students and staff are encourage to wear red, white and blue on Nov. 11.
Martha Reid Elementary - Students at Reid Elementary will be doing a performance during their enrichment time on Nov. 11. The students will sing and dance to invited community veterans.
Mary Jo Sheppard Elementary - Sheppard Elementary will be hosting a Veterans Day program on Friday, Nov. 11 at 8:15 a.m. Veterans will be the guests of honor for the event, and there will be an “honor wall” for veterans who cannot attend. After the program, veterans and their child(ren) will be treated to donuts and drinks in the library. Students are encouraged to wear red, white and blue.
Elizabeth Smith Elementary - Smith Elementary will be asking students to invite a past or present member of the military to lunch.
Cora Spencer Elementary - Spencer Elementary will celebrate Veterans Day on Nov. 10 with a teachers versus veterans basketball game. The event will take place at 6:30 p.m. in the Lake Ridge High School gym. Admission to the event is one canned good or nonperishable food item per family member, and all goods collected will be donated to the Mansfield Food Pantry. Drawings will take place during the game for a chance to win a spot in one of the fun halftime events.
Tarver Rendon Elementary - Tarver-Rendon Elementary students and staff will honor veterans during a Veterans Day program on Nov. 11 at 9:30 a.m. The event will feature students singing patriotic music.
Roberta Tipps Elementary - Tipps Elementary is creating a veterans “wall of honor,” which will be displayed in the cafeteria. The wall will feature pictures of students’ favorite veterans and information about their military experience. The campus has also encouraged veterans to come eat lunch with their student(s) on Friday, Nov. 11.
Della Icenhower Intermediate - Icenhower Intermediate will invite veterans and their family to attend a coffee and muffins breakfast on Nov. 11 from 7:50 - 8:45 a.m. The event will take place in the school library.
Mary Lillard Intermediate - On Nov. 11, Lillard Intermediate will transform its halls into “walls of honor,” depicting veterans in the family of students and staff. Since the day is also the school’s career day, veterans will be among the speakers and will be celebrated during a breakfast for presenters. Everyone on campus is encouraged to wear yellow ribbons to show support and appreciation for veterans.
Mary Orr Intermediate – Orr Intermediate will host a luncheon with veterans and their children/grandchildren on Nov. 11. The participants will also be served with desserts.
Cross Timbers Intermediate – Cross Timbers Intermediate will be inviting veterans to come to its hospitality room for cake and some light snacks in honor of their service. Veterans will also speak in their child’s social studies class to share their stories.
James Coble Middle - Coble Middle will be hosting its second annual Veterans Day ceremony and reception on Nov. 11 from 8:45 to 10 a.m. in the school cafeteria. Community veterans have been invited to attend.
Linda Jobe Middle - Jobe Middle is inviting the community to attend its Veterans Day assembly on Nov. 11 at 2:30 p.m. The choir and band will perform. The student council and National Junior Honor Society will also be part of the activities.
Danny Jones Middle – Jones Middle will hold a breakfast at 8 a.m. on Nov. 11 for active and retired military members related to Danny Jones students and staff. Around 8:55 a.m., a Veteran Day assembly will begin. The band will play, the choir will sing and Pastor Michael Evans, school board trustee and former navy man, will speak to the students and staff.
Brooks Wester Middle - Wester Middle will be hosting a breakfast for invited veterans. The guests will then be invited to participate in a schoolwide assembly in their honor.
Rogene Worley Middle - Worley Middle is planning a flag raising ceremony and reception for Veterans Day. On Nov. 11, the school will have a short ceremony at the flag pole, which will include the choir, band and a brief presentation by National Junior Honor Society students. A reception will immediately follow in the library.
Lake Ridge High School - Lake Ridge High will have a breakfast for veterans on Nov. 11. There will also be signs throughout the building honoring veterans, and a special morning announcement will be made to pay tribute to them.
Legacy High School - Legacy High is hosting a Veterans Day lunch on Friday, Nov. 11 from 10:55 a.m. to 1 p.m for all parents and teachers who are veterans. The school will also have performances from the band and other campus organizations in honor of all veterans.
Mansfield High School - Mansfield High will have a Veterans Day parade on Friday, Nov. 11 at 10:15 a.m. The drill team, cheerleaders, band and football players will march around the building and end at the football field. At the field, veterans and local first responders will be the guests of honor for a program that the school will put together.
The Phoenix Academy - The Phoenix Academy will have four speakers who will present to students on Nov. 11 at 8:15 a.m. The speakers are a female marine veteran, a former student, a Phoenix teacher and a Phoenix volunteer. World War II mementos will be on display, and veterans have also been invited to enjoy a hospitality room and listen to the speakers.
Summit High School - Summit High will celebrate Veterans Day on Nov. 11 with a commemorating luncheon in the library. The purpose is to celebrate and engage the students in learning about and appreciating what veterans, both active duty and former service members, have done for the country and the sacrifices they have made. A “Jaguar Community Patriot’s Wall” will also be on display highlighting pictures of community veterans.
Timberview High School - Each year, the Timberview High band performs at the Veterans Day assembly at Thelma Jones Elementary School. Also, the Air Force JROTC (AFJROTC) marches in the Dallas Veterans Day Parade. One new event this year is the AFJROTC Spirit Week. It includes a dress-up day each day this week, and a military fair during lunches on Thursday, Nov. 10.
