Mansfield ISD and TCC Announce new Dual Credit Partnership
Posted 01/10/2014 11:51AM

ARLINGTON, TX – The Mansfield ISD announced a new partnership with Tarrant County College that will allow high school students to earn up to 48 semester credit hours through a new dual credit early college enrollment agreement. The new program, iStart Collegiate Accelerated Dual Credit, was announced during a Friday, January 10 morning event in the Summit High School Library to MISD and TCC administrators as well as students from a freshmen AVID class.

In order to provide a solid foundation for students’ education and to make transfers between colleges and universities as smooth and seamless as possible, each state supported institution of higher education in Texas has adopted a college core curriculum of 42-48 semester credit hours. By completing these core curriculum courses, students achieve college level competence in the skills that are fundamental to all disciplines of learning.

Mansfield ISD will support the effort of TCC to provide a solid foundation for students’ education by providing the opportunity for students to take courses in each of the college core curriculum areas while still in high school through dual credit early college enrollment. The iStart Collegiate Program for Accelerated Dual Credit will give Mansfield ISD students the opportunity to earn a total of 48 semester credit college hours.

Speakers included Darrell Sneed, MISD Associate Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction, and Accountability; Dr. Bill Coppola, President of TCC Southeast Campus; Dr. Carlos Morales, President of TCC Connect; and Dr. Jim Vaszauskas, Superintendent of Mansfield ISD.

Each administrator gave remarks that included words of encouragement for the students to seriously consider the new dual credit opportunities being provided for them in the hopes of fostering college-going aspirations.
