Mansfield ISD Administrators and the School Board have heard feedback from parents, students and staff over the last year regarding their interest in changing when semester exams occur for fall classes. Currently, students take exams for fall classes after winter break. The original reasoning for this decision was so that fall and spring semesters would have an equal amount of instructional days. Feedback has indicated there is interest in moving some or all of fall exams to before Winter Break next year.
MISD Administrators received feedback from a committee of high school teachers and a districtwide student advisory council. The options below represent the options submitted by those groups.
The options for 2013-14 semester exams are below and the MISD commnity of parents, students, staff and patrons were invited to select the preferred option using an online survey that ran May 2-16.
#1 Current Option
#1 Current Option - All exams occur following Winter Break. This reflects our current schedule.
#2 All Exams Option
#2 All Exams Option - All semester exams would occur prior to Winter Break. The semester would end after Winter Break, allowing a few weeks for remediation, test makeup and classes to continue.
#3 Core/Elective Split Exams Option
#3 Core/Elective Split Exams Option - Exams in core classes would occur prior to Winter Break and elective exams after Winter Break. The semester would end at the current time, or after Winter Break. (Core classes include English/ Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.)
The online survey closed Thursday, May 16, 2013.
Thank you to all who took the online survey. Your survey feedback will be considered by MISD Administration and will inform their recommendation to the School Board. Thank you for your time and your involvement in Mansfield ISD.
