The Terry Foundation Scholarship at the University of Houston
WHAT IS THE TERRY FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP?
The Terry Foundation Scholarship is for spring 2014 graduates of Texas high schools who demonstrate leadership ability, financial need, and scholastic achievement. The amount of the Terry scholarship is based upon the cost of attendance at the University of Houston and can be applied to the cost of tuition, fees, books, on-campus room and board, and miscellaneous expenses. The Terry Foundation scholarship is a last-dollar award, as such Terry Scholars will have all unmet financial need covered by the Foundation.
WHO QUALIFIES FOR THE TERRY FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP?
Students nominated to the Foundation last year possessed an average SAT score of 1200 (combined math and critical reading) with a majority of nominees ranking in the top 15% of their graduating classes. These students were also highly engaged outside the classroom with many involved in extracurricular activities and holding leadership positions. Additionally, previous nominees exhibited varying levels of financial need. These qualities are not minimum criteria; all interested students are encouraged to apply.

Texas Women’s University: The Scholars Preview Day is designed for high school seniors who are in the top 10% OR who have a minimum SAT of a 1090 on the critical reading & math or a minimum of a 24 on the ACT. A sample agenda is provided on the Scholars Preview Day web page.
At this event information will be shared about TWU’s academic programs, student leadership opportunities and TWU distinguished scholarship opportunities such as:
- The Terry Foundation –The award covers the cost of tuition, fees, books, on-campus room and board, as well as miscellaneous expenses. Leadership, academic excellence and financial need are criteria considered during the selection process. The second class of 16 Terry Scholars at TWU will be selected from a group of 33 finalists by a Terry Foundation interview panel in spring 2014.
- The Presidential Scholarship is available to Valedictorians or Salutatorians at an accredited high school, this scholarship awards full tuition and fees.
- Honors Scholars and New Student Freshman Scholarships can range anywhere from $5,500 - $1,000.

TEXAS INTERSCHOLASTIC LEAGUE FOUNDATION: SENIORS WHO HAVE COMPETED IN A UIL ACADEMIC STATE MEET OR QUALIFY AS AN OUTSTANDING SOLOIST AT THE TEXAS STATE SOLO AND ENSEMBLE CONTEST AT LEAST ONCE IN THEIR HIGH SCHOOL CAREER AND PLANNING TO ATTEND A 4 YEAR COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY IN TEXAS ARE ENCOURAGE TO APPLY FOR THIS SCHOLARSHIP. APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED VIA THE TILF WEBSITE (www.tilf.uiltexas.org) BEGINNING MARCH 3, 2014 AND ENDING MAY 30, 2014. STUDENTS COMPETING IN THE TSSEC MAY APPLY UNTIL JUNE 20, 2014 DUE TO THE LATE DATE OF THAT EVENT.
