What is the UIL Academic Team?
|
Academic competitions provide a means to flex mental muscles and excel in one or more of the twenty-three areas listed below. In addition to having fun while competing, local and state-wide scholarships may be available to students who qualify to compete at higher levels of competition. MHS students are offered competitive opportunities via the University Interscholastic League (UIL), Texas Forensics Association (TFA), National Forensics League (NFL), Texas Computer Education Association (TCEA), Texas Math and Science Coaches Association (TMSCA). During 2002-2003, Texas Interscholastic League Foundation disbursed $1,380,000 to 703 students attending 70 colleges and universities in Texas. TILF received 713 applications in 2002 and awarded 449 new and 254 renewed scholarships. The TILF has over $5 million in endowed funds and receives direct scholarship grants each year of more than $800,000 from foundations, individuals and corporate sponsors throughout the state. TILF anticipates disbursing over $1 million during 2003-2004 to approximately 700 students. Any senior student who, during any year of the High School career, has competed on the state level of competition in one of the UIL Academic Contests and will attend a college or university in Texas, is eligible to apply. |
