Students will be responsible for researching a particular person to write a biography. Students will be allowed to choose from a list that I provide for them or they may choose someone else with my approval. Students will need at least five sources with three different types of sources. The paper will need a Works Cited Page, and the students will be required to use MLA Style. The paper will be no less than eight pages in length. Students will finish the assignment by creating a Power Point Presentation in the computer lab and presenting in front of the class.
The project grade will be determined by quality of presentation, research of information, quality of handouts, and creativity. Students will get a seperate grade for their Power Point and Presentation. Students will also get a grade for their Works Cited Page. Failure to turn in a Works Cited Page will result in a zero on the entire project.

August 2005
Dear Parents,
As a new school term begins, I am excited about having your daughter or son in my class and am looking forward to a wonderful year. In an effort to keep you informed as to the reading content of the English curriculum at Mansfield High School , the following is a list of the novels and plays that my class will be covering throughout the year.
Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck (Sept. 6)
Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare (This play is in the text book.)
Peace Like a River by Lief Enger
Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
(We may also read A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare if time allows.)
We ask that you purchase a copy of each novel as a part of your child's school supplies. I will inform your students at least one week in advance as to when the novel will be needed in class. Novels may or may not be available before I place each order. You may purchase the novels at Barnes and Nobles and Walden Books in the Parks Mall. Used copies are perfectly acceptable and can be purchased in a variety of places. If you object to any of these reading assignments, an alternative novel will be assigned to your child. I can assure you that the social and moral issue will be addressed in a proper fashion during the reading of the novels. Again, I am looking forward to an exciting and enjoyable term with your student.
