The PURPOSE of this class is to Learn the fundamentals of CHEMISTRY and the relationship to the community, while having a little fun in the process!

 

MATERIALS NEEDED FOR CLASS

A.     ID, Notebook, Pen, Pencils, Paper, Calculator

B.     FOLDER- if you DON”T HAVE ONE, GET ONE NOW!!!

·       YOU MAY BRING 4 Rolls of Paper Towels, 2 Boxes of Tissues,  1 Gallon of Distilled Water, 1 package of Dry –Erase® markers EXTRA CREDIT!!!

 

GRADING POLICY

            LABS and HOMEWORK……30%

            TESTS/PROJECTS…………..40%

            OTHER……………………….30%

·        If you miss a day of class you have 1 day, plus the number of days you were absent to make up your work.  If the absence is UNEXCUSED, you have the same number of days, but can ONLY SCORE 70%.

·        Missed labs will require a 1 page typed report on the subject matter pertaining that particular lab.

·        NO LATE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED if you were present on the day the assignment was made!

·        NO Re-Takes on failed exams.  However, you can correct the test to get credit!

·        If you have a 75 average or less, you will be given a progress report on the dates listed on the net page.

  2. Be Here EVERYDAY
  3. DO YOUR OWN WORK- there will be plenty of times you can use the help of your partner(s) Participate in LABS and discussions, etc.  You’ll be surprised what you learn!
  4. Everybody has a 100 average on DAY 1!!!  It’s your grade to keep.  If you need extra help, I will be more than glad to help you reach your goals!

            1st Grade Report          January 24, 2003

            2nd Grade Report          February 14, 2003- 1st 6 Weeks

            3rd Grade Report          March 14, 2003- end of 1st 9 Week Semester

            4th Grade Report          April 11, 2003- 2nd 6 Weeks

            5th Grade Report          May 9, 2003- 3 weeks

            FINAL Grade Report   May 29, 2003- End of  Semester

 

PASSES TO BE EXCUSED FROM CLASS

Each student will be given  2 FREE PASSES DURING THE ENTIRE  SEMESTER to go to the restroom, get a forgotten article, etc.  After you have used the 2nd FREE PASS, you will be charged 10 points  off the day’s assignment (Test, LAB, Classwork, or Homework).  NO EXCEPTIONS!!!

Project Information

There will be one project due on March 18th. This will be a team project on the chosen subject matter. Teams will be chosen in the class as well as the topics. Each team will be required to prepare a presentation with handouts for the class.

The project grade will be determined by quality of presentation, research of information, quality of handouts, and creativity.
