MANSFIELD FFA CHAPTERFREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONSconcerningSUPERVISED AGRICULTURAL EXPERIENCE PROGRAMSTable of Contents
Can a student with more than one enterprise obtain 20 hours credit for each enterprise ?The productive enterprises must be directly related to the course in which the student is enrolled, or has completed, and each productive enterprise, regardless of scope, may be used as credit for only one course per semester (quarter). [Example #1: If a student is taking more than one agriculture course in a single semester (quarter) and has a diversified SAE program, the student may claim 20 hours in each course. More specifically, if a student is enrolled in Plant and Animal Production and Animal Science in the fall semester and has a hog enterprise and a sheep enterprise, the student can claim 20 hours credit in Plant and Animal Production and 20 hours credit in Animal Science] [Example #2: If a student is enrolled in Landscape Design and has a hog enterprise, the student can claim 20 hours credit in Landscape Design but only if the student previously completed a course related to animal science.] Back to TopWhen traveling to and from events, can students get credit for the travel time?No credit is allowed fro time spent in travel. Students get credit for the actual time of involvement at the event. Back to TopWhat is the maximum number of hours that can be claimed for a single activity? Inside class? Outside Class? One hour is the maximum value per activity (inside and outside class). Existing "activity pages" may be used for the new record book system. One hour per activity replaces the point value for each activity listed in the "activity pages." An activity that involves more than one hour of time should be separated into multiple activities. [For example, if a student built a five-strand barbed wire fence on Saturday, the student should separate the accomplishment into several activities (such as driving posts, fastening and tightening wire, etc.).] Back to TopWhat are the maximum numbers of hours that can be credited for repetitive activities, such as LDE, CDE, livestock shows, etc.?For degree and award purposes, the following maximum hours apply: District Convention attendance: 3 hours. Area Convention attendance: 6 hours. State Convention attendance: 20 hours. Leadership Camp attendance: 10 hours per camp; total not to exceed 20 hours. One hour may be added for each specific activity beyond the maximum hours allowed for attending the event. [For example, if a student in attendance at the Area Convention receives credit for 6 hours, that student also receives credit for being a voting delegate (one our) and participating in a Star Award interview (one hour). The two additional convention activities must be recorded as separate entries.] CDE and/or LDE training: 20 hours. CDE and/or LDE competition: 4 hours per event; total not to exceed 20 hours. Livestock show exhibition: 4 hours per livestock show; total not to exceed 20 hours.
Back to TopCan anything from other classes be listed as URC or NEC activities?URC (UnRelated to the Course which enrolled in) refers to "agriculture related activities" performed by a student that are not directly related to the agriculture course in which the student is enrolled. NEC (Not Enrolled in a Course) refers to "agriculture related activities" performed by a student while the student is not enrolled in an agricultural course. NEC also includes summer activities. Back to TopWhere are training plans required?A student earning income, other than from enterprise, and documenting it in the record book must include a training plan to support earnings. This includes the "Earnings and Income from Sources Other Than The SAEP" listed on page 17 of the IMS record book and in similar pages for other record book formats. A student completing the record book as part of a Work-Based Learning (formerly Agriculture Cooperative Training) and Agricultural Industry (formerly Pre-employment Laboratory) must have a training plan included in the record book. Back to TopWhat are the record book procedures for a student enrolled in a Work-Based Learning (WBL) course or an Agricultral industry (AL) course? The student enrolled in WBL or AI records daily work, units of instruction, earnings and/or hours on the pages designated for activities (pages 5 & 6 in the IMS record book). The information will be summarized on pages 7 and 8. Training plans are required to support the record book and daily work completed by the student. Minimum hourly standards are in alignment with the standards set forth in the Student Attendance and Accounting Handbook for these classes. (refer to next page).
