Job Title: Payroll Clerk Wage/Hour Status: Nonexempt

Primary Purpose:
  Maintain payroll and personnel records for all bus drivers, mechanics and transportation office staff.
Qualifications:
  Education/Certification:
  High school diploma or GED
Valid Texas Commercial driver's license (class B with passenger)
Current Texas School Bus Certification

  Special Knowledge/Skills:
  Proficient skills in keyboarding, word processing, and file maintenance
Effective communication and interpersonal skills
Basic math skills
Handle phone calls and complaints professionally
Ability to use personal computer and software
Ability to pass alcohol and drug test
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions

  Experience:
  Two years secretarial, accounting or school bus driving experience.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
  Records:
  1. Prepare payroll for monthly processing.
2. Maintain absentee records for all department employees and provide reports.
3. Maintain up to date payroll files for all department employees.
  Accounting:
  4. Calculate actual hours worked by each employee each week. Verify approvals for absences and for overtime.
5. Compile and prepare payroll on department employees.
  Data Entry:
  6. Input new employee information into computer.
7. Input weekly time card information into computer.
Phones:
  8. Answer incoming calls, take messages, and route them to appropriate staff while assisting in dispatch.
9. Handle questions and complaints that fall within level of responsibility.
  Other:
  10. Operate two-way radio equipment.
11. Attend and complete required training program to maintain safety certification.
12. Maintain effective rapport with general public and handle any problems or concerns in a prompt and courteous manner.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  None.

  Personal computer, typewriter, printer, calculator, copier, two-way radio, telephone, school bus and safety equipment

  Work with frequent interruptions, maintain emotional control under stress. Repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer. Continual sitting, work outside and inside. Moderate exposure to extreme temperature (hot) and vehicle fumes.
